I gotta know why
I still get comments from my friends when they see my BFR 45-70, they figure that I must be lacking in my manhood and thats the only logical reason for having this gun..REALLY. I bought this gun so I can do some hunting with a pistol I figured I would by this gun so it eliminates any chance of me not being prepared for a hunt, whether it might be wild boar or elk. Why do people automatically think that a man is small in the pants so he needs a gun to compensate for this....How is that even possible. What ever the logic is could someone please give me some insight on how the lack of one is made up by the size of another. I didn't get these comments from my 45-70 rifle.

You sound really sensitive to comments suggesting you're compensating.
Do you feel overly sensitive? How does the implication that you are compensating make you feel? Do you find yourself laying awake nights worrying about what people say about your extremely large revolver? It may be that this issue is disturbing you on levels you may not even be aware of. This may be something you want to explore with a professional. Meanwhile, to ensure your extremely large revolver does not do any more damage to your fragile psyche, you should get rid of it. Send it to me, and I will place it in my gunsafe and take good care of it, until you no longer are plagued by latent feelings of inadequacy.

The only reason I can see for a 45-70 hand gun is it is 1850 or so and you are fighting the Indian wars (Apaches) and your rifle is also 45-70.
Or ??? Is not there some guy around here that bought a 500 SW for his first hand gun? Gosh I wish I had a nice 105 recoilless rifle for my front yard. |

Why should you care what anyone else thinks of your "equipment." As long as it give you "personal satisfaction", other peoples opinions don't matter.

The logic being that a man small in the pants will typically feel inadequate and make himself feel more 'manly' by buying large, manly things. This is usually seen in people who drive V10-powered pickups with twelve-inch lifts, brush bars, and fifteen bumper stickers on the rear window. I haven't seen it extend to the firearms world much.
Here's an easy solution: cobble together about $200. Go and buy a Taurus PT22. You don't actually ever have to shoot the PT22, but you should have a few rounds with it just in case. Now, wherever you take the BFR, take the PT22 also. This should dispel said rumors that your 'equipment' is less sizable than the norm ![]() Last edited by FreakGasolineFight; February 23, 2010 at 08:57 PM. |

Big AND small?

But I fear that extending that logic into your second paragraph implies that the original poster's equipment is lop-sided. You trying to give him a complex? ![]() ![]() ![]() Lost Sheep |

No equipment problems here.
It's not the size of the gun (or bullet) but whether you can place your shots where they are supposed to go for maximum effect.
If you know how to operate your equipment correctly, your intended target will be thoroughly thumped to an optimally satisfying degree. I enjoy double entendre as much as I as I love shooting doubles (and I'm NOT talking about twins!) ![]() Did he really say that!? ![]() Lost Sheep |

If you use it for the intended purpose then nobody should hassle you.
However, if you wear it on your hip while driving a sports car with a roll of quarters in your front pocket....then maybe you should order some of those pills theu advertise at 2a.m. on cable. |

Um, why is this thread even still here? I've seen them closed that were more on topic than this one. Not too mention it's a bit racy for a "family friendly" atmosphere. If you're that insecure see a shrink; this is not the place to discuss your "size" or lack thereof.

Doc: You are evil.
P.S. Is the fact that his forum name is BFROWNER, capitalized, has anything to do with feelings of inadecuacy? |

LOL about the name in all caps. It will probably be closed once some mods wake up and have their coffee. (They closed my "Mary Ann or Ginger" thread about the Python vs SAA for next to nothing.)

If my post today are off, my head is about to explode from a bad cold, had it for over a week after my wife had it, then I got it and my son got it and now have it back.
I had the BFR 45-70 10”, just sold it to buy a rifle, it was fun to shoot and people at the range would get a kick out of it “kick” is the operative word. I think they are good guns and would like to get the 7 ½ inch someday the 10” needed optics. I think it is a personal choice what people shoot; the 45-70 has always been one of my favorite calibers. If you hand load, it you can tame it down or really charge it up! I have a 50 Beowulf and that is a powerhouse, and shoot a Ruger Charger 22lr. I do not think people rate people by what you shoot; if they do they might have some issues. I liked my BFR and it was fun! |

On a more serious note. BF, they are giving you a hard time, breaking your jewels, having fun, and to top it all off, it bothers you which makes it hillarious. So, go allong with it. It's all in good fun. Have a sence of hummor.
![]() P.S. Did you get to put on your truck the BFR sticker that reads "SIZE MATTERS"? Last edited by Maromero; February 24, 2010 at 10:18 AM. |

@ Lostsheep
Well, I'm operating within the confines of his friend's thought processes. Let's see here ... If a BFR automatically equals a small package (this being a gun that is substantially larger than the norm) by their logic a PT22 would equal a larger package. It's a simple ration of gun as opposed to package size, i.e they occupy a certain mass together, but mass is interchangeable between the two. Now we know that by friend's logic BFR = small package. Therefore, if we add PT22 (large package) to BFR, then we get-- Small package + large package = medium-sized package. Mah logicz iz irrefutable. ![]() |

Gosh, I carry a .25acp, what does that mean?
![]() I've heard all the gun comments from idiots that just don't get it. The comments that get under my skin are about my Corvette and age. Your to old to drive a vette, BS, maybe when I'm cold and stiff. |

now that I think about it, the only way to solve your problem is to show them what you are packing. unless, of course, it is accurate
seriously, this is just silly. kind of funny...but silly |

Well that would explain why I want a 22 short barrel for my Contender.
