got a PM & will improve my writing

I posted new reply about a girl jogger & tried to keep the spelling & other stuff in better shape . The grandson is punished & cant come over but we talked & I have a better idea how this works . He said he will add spell check & give me a few more lessons . I did really enjoy the story about the downed pilot & got carried away . This is all new to me & even back in the day I was not a good student but I was a soldier & did serve in combat . The computer is fun & you can write & read about lots of stuff going on besides guns , sorry I got off on the wrong foot . PS I did think that S&W 317 was over priced but after I used it & got the feel & it shot to the point of aim thats all you can ask of any revolver or pistol . Its the 10 oz weight that sold me , I didnt think that using a 22 for protection would anger anyone . I have lots of good story's in this old noggin & I hope I can share them with you guys & I also have other guns to talk about ....Jimmy

Welcome aboard Jimmy. Please accept my apologies, I was harsh in my responses in the previous thread. I hope you enjoy your time on TFL, and we can all learn from each other.

I like the tone of this one much better. I hope you stick around and have a great time. Now if we can just avoid having the thread locked, or simply disappearing into the ether.....

Jimmy,

You are doing much better. Now you need to begin adding a bit of “white space” into your writing.

“White space” is what I just did, put a blank line every once in awhile. Usually when the thought or subject changes.

However, you’re not the only one who writes without white space. I just about always skip over postings which don’t have white space. Those are just way too hard to read.

I hope to read some of your stories. And don’t worry about someone’s opinion of your gun or of your story, it’s merely an opinion and those are cheap to get.

You’ll learn that some persons get a bit emotional about their selection of guns and don’t like to have anyone cast off on it. So go easy on the 9mm Glocks (big grin).

Yes welcome aboard.

If you don't mind a bit more advice, I think the one change that will improve your writing the most is to simply skip a line between paragraphs.

To use a bit of your previous post as an example:

Quote:
I posted new reply about a girl jogger & tried to keep the spelling & other stuff in better shape .

The grandson is punished & cant come over but we talked & I have a better idea how this works . He said he will add spell check & give me a few more lessons .

I did really enjoy the story about the downed pilot & got carried away .

It makes things a lot easier to read if it's broken up into a few smaller blocks of text, instead of the one big one.

10-4 what ClayIn Tx sed..

"However, you’re not the only one who writes without white space. I just about always skip over postings which don’t have white space. Those are just way too hard to read.""

I never read long posts with no space, no indents, and sometimes not even a period.

Welcome aboard triple J !!!

Got any ol' scatterguns???

I was the one who sent jjj the PM. It was to thank him for his efforts in his more recent post: http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/...78#post3815578

That one was a whole lot easier to read, I think we can all agree on that. If the gracious tips given by several members in this thread are taken to heart, the posting will get even better. Thanks to all, including jjj for the effort being put forth to improve TFL.

Normally, this thread and the other discussion thread on posting would be closed or moved to the Tech Support forum since they really have nothing to do with handguns. But, I'm making this one a special case, and will leave them right here. I think we are all learning from this experience, and I include myself in that.

wel beinz-ta-how you served... I reckon I can look passed the tote-all lack of inglish skillz...

We all try to maintain a bit of individuality in this totally anonymous realm. Some times it clicks and other times it doesn't.
I think the advice you have gotten is a good start. Even my "typed as spoken in redneck-ese" method only ticks off a few since I try to use capitals and punctuation rules pretty much.

I second that. My hat is off to the Veterens on the board, at all times. You folks have my respect and thanks, no matter how grumpy you are :P

Lol, on a serious note, I am from Southern Kentucky, and have a pretty thick accent, but I absolutely hate it when people say "be-ins"...it's like fingernails on a chalk board.

Well jjj, BE-INS that I don`t use 'white spaces' I guess you and I both learned something from this thread. I`ll remember to from here on out. Thanks to Mal H for not closing this thread. Speaks well of you as a moderator.

Apparently I need to change something on this computor. I put 'white spaces' in previous post but when I submitted it turned out like what you see.

shortwave, looking at the raw text in your post #14, you either used actual spaces or maybe tabs. This practically-brain-dead text editor that is standard with vbulletin ignores all but one space in a series of spaces.

You have to use the enter key to create paragraphs. (Two enters = one blank line. From there on each enter will add another blank line.)

If it can be read, it's good enough. The rest doesn't matter.

The Firefox web browser has an auto-spell check for posting to forums such as this.
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/personal.html

If it sounds ok when you read it aloud then it's probably written just fine.

Remember to hit the enter key when you want to start a new thought.

Oh man, am I going to get flack on this but … well, if it was a “private” message … from a person who was staff no less ... to whom you have already replied to openly here with a thread so named “sorry boss” … Why am I still reading about it?!?

Call me an insensitive #$%@&*, but this is just a bit too passive aggressive!

Google Chrome, as well. http://www.google.com/chrome?hl=en&brand=CHMI

It auto-detects text fields, and activates the spell-checker (which uses notifications much like popular word processors).

Chrome, I might add; really is as fast as they advertise. I spent way too much time waiting for pages to load in Internet Explorer... Chrome fixed that. (I'm not affiliated with the brand or program; just satisfied with the product.)

JJJ, Welcome.
I look forward to reading your stories and adventures. Glad you did not get scared off after the warning.

Wait until you try to figure out the quote marks and other stuff available.
