Corrosive Ammo

Teach me about corrosive ammo.

What component of the cartridge is corrosive?
Is it the powder or the primer... or both?
Is the corrosive component some how better or offer advantage over the non-corrosive one?

Why did some countries manufacture corrosive military ammo as late as 1970's when non-corrosive components have been around for 100+ years? Why were most military ammo from WWII or earlier corrosive when most civilian ammo were non-corrosive since turn of the last century?

Do they still make corrosive ammo?

Your first step should be a search of TFL using our more than capable search tool.

There have been many, many excellent threads about corrosive ammunition in the past, with tons of pertinent information about compositions, specific uses, how to clean, longevity, etc.
