New to the site

I am new to the site and would like to say hello , I've done alot of shooting in the past 50 yrs and have just started reloading and will have plenty of questions for the forum members thanks in advance to you all , any information will be greatly appreciated . I have been doing mostly single action shooting ,45 Long Colt revolver , 45 Lever action , 357 single action revolver and lever action rifle.
My 1st question is which powder could anyone recomend for 45 cal revolver using a 250 grain swc flat nosed lead bullet . I am currently using Bullseye but Ive noticed the factory loads to be a little more accurate (also 250 gr but with a round nose lead bullet) Fired from a 45 Uberti Colt S/A revolver .

Regards and thanks, Charlie

I think 8-10gr Unique is most people's go-to load for that bullet. I know it's mine. I shoot 9.7gr Unique behind a 260gr LSWC. I mostly shoot it in my levergun though, for my pistol I prefer closer to 8gr Unique.

Greetings Chief, and welcome aboard.
Don't assume it's the powder that makes the difference. Since you're talking about two different bullets, perhaps that should be your starting point, not the powder.

I get good accuracy with Bullseye in .38 Spc and .45 ACP, but they are considerably smaller cases. My old Lyman handbook suggests, for a 250-gr in a .45 Colt, 231 is potentially the most accurate powder.

Some will argue against using Bullseye in larger cases, like the Colt, because of the real possibility of undetected multiple charges resulting in disaster. A little bit of Bullseye goes a long way.

Welcome to the board.

I have pretty much switched to 700-X for all of my revolver loads.

It burns clean enough for me and is easily adjusted up or down for what I am doing, mostly plinking paper.

THIS IS THE LOAD I USE. AS ALWAYS, VERIFY THE DATA AND MAKE SURE IT IS SAFE IN YOUR GUN. YOU MUST ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY LOAD YOU USE.

I use between 5.6 and 6 grains of 700-x under my bullets.
