115gr FMJ recipe?

I just bought a box of 115gr FMJ and have some Universal to put under them. My Lyman manual doesn't show the combination. I'm using 1.150oal (edited for bullet type).

With that very short 1.045" COL, start at 3.5 grains. I show 4.5 grains as a maximum in QuickLOAD at that length with the Nosler 115 grain FMJ. At the full length 1.169" you may be able to go up as much as another grain, but if you seat any shorter it will be less. Hodgdon shows 5.0 grains maximum for the 115 grain Gold Dot seated to 1.125".

Thank you. I apologize though, I'm still going on the TC 124gr bullet I was using, so I'll make a dummy bullet and find out what the OAL my CZ will now take with the FMJ bullet.

EDIT: My dummy bullet chambers fine at 1.150, so I guess that will be my formula to build on.

Chris, I checked Hodgdon's website, and they list they following for Universal and a jacketed bullet:

Min: 4.5gr
Max: 5.0gr

Min. OAL: 1.125"

For what it's worth, take a look at Hodgdon's online reloading data. In my opinion, it's what all powder manufacturers should have available.

Here's the link: http://data.hodgdon.com/main_menu.asp

Might load a few around 4.6 grains and go from there. I've shot them from the starting load up to max and found 4.8 / 4.9 grains under a 115 grains accurate and nice shooting in my guns...YMMV.
