Can't you find .25-06 brass anywhere? I believe all you would have to do is run a .30-06 case through your .25-06 full length die, then trim to length.

The simple answer is yes. though it doesn't look it is as easy as running them through a 25-06 die.
In any event here is a nice link I found when considering doing the same thing. It is an interesting read. http://newsgroups.derkeiler.com/Arch.../msg00245.html |

Your welcome from another 25-06 fan with tons of 30-06 brass. Though I do have a 30-06.

Have been using '06 brass in my 6.5-06 for many years. I use Imperial Graphite lube on the necks and stroke it down.

One word of advice: if you make 25-06 brass out of 30-06 brass, check the neck carefully after forming it to make sure the brass in the neck area is not too thick. Not typically a problem with commercial brass, but a potential problem with military brass.

Trade or sell the 30-06 brass and get 25-06 brass. Easiest way.

As mentioned previously, neck may be too thick. An easier conversion is the .270 Win to 25-06. If you have .270 dies also, might run the 30-06 thru the .270 die first, may save some "Grunt" work.
Lube the case body well, no lube on the neck though. I useImperial sizeing wax, YMMV. |

FM12... just ordered some Imperial sizeing wax, from midway. One way or another I am going to try to work up a load for this 25/06
FM12. Isn't the 270win just a little longer than the 25/06? I guess I would have to cut the 270win down a little. But I seen were forneyrider has some that are free to a good home. Am I promise to love them, squeeze them, hold them polish them, load them and then shoot them ))))) |

WHICHEVER you reform, be sure and trim them to minimum recommended length!

The .270 is longer only to the extent that the further inward slope of the shoulder still has the same neck length on it. Probably not a necessary thing to have done, as the 25-06 doesn't do it. No matter. You'll have to trim after squirting brass into a narrow diameter anyway.
The warning to watch the neck wall thickness is to be taken seriously, as an over maximum neck thickness can jam in a tight chamber making for very high pressure. Size the case of your choice. Use an inside neck reamer to remove all but the last couple thousandths of excess brass. Do that last part with an outside neck turning tool to ensure even neck thickness, then run it over a .25-06 expander to get the ID right.

Sorry if it was discouraging. If you already own most of the right tools, it's no big deal to do, but if you don't, the savings gets hard to realize. It's more reasonable to undertake the expense of tooling up if you have a chambering you can't buy the brass ready made for at competitive prices.
If you're not going to get a .30-'06, look around to see if you can trade the brass for what you want, or sell it to help buy what you want?
