Trigger pull on a Blackhawk .41 Magnum---
What's the best way to lessen the trigger pull on a New Model .41 Magnum
Blackhawk ? I read somewhere that you could clip a coil or two off the coil spring. Wouldn't that maybe cause some mis-fires from not hitting the primer hard enough ? Thanks |

Pop your stocks off, see up at the top there are matching springs (dog legged) at the top?
Flip off ONE>>>>>see, easy! |

Wolf
tomh1426: not knowing which model you have I can only guess.
Shooters Pack=new model - 30/17 ::: you can mix and match your springs to find maybe some change. Potentially to light of a hammer strike on the primer and not setting off the fire. Some Primers just don't act the same. Rare but does happen. Factory ammo you ?should? be okay. Other are for the competition type shooter; i.e. speed. Old models have another spring pack How to tell if your firearm is ?Old? Style; pull hammer back; look where the firing pin should be; do you see a large piece of metal that appears that the hammer will hit before making contact with the firing pin? If the metal piece is there NEW style. |

I have a new model blackhawk in .45Colt and I only shoot my reloads out of it.
Pretty much the same gun as the OP with the same goal in mind. |

Wolf
tomh1426: re-look at the "shooters" pack. If you are doing 'Purely' target type competition; maybe the 'competition' pack.
I use, and have used 5-6 shooters packs and interchanged; [just messing about] springs. The major difference is ?let off? I haven't nor do I wish to return to the stock spring. It is that much difference for me. .44-.357-.22's and will be adding 30 cal. and .17hmr. Guess you know; Wolf will be added |

What was described above,(releasing one spring leg), is often refered to as the Poor-man's trigger job. Not wanting to chase any-one from this forum, but if you check-out the gun-smithing section of the Rugerforum.com you should find the prefered method of re-bending the same springs for a smoother trigger, and lots of other how-tos for single-action Rugers.

Ruger
.45 Vet: outstanding reference. If you can't find out about Rugers @RugerForum.com.. It doesn't exist.

Changing the springs is NOT a trigger job. The poorboy's "trigger job" is an insult to people than actually do trigger work. If you want a nice crisp trigger on your Ruger pay someone to do it.

I plan on having my smith work the trigger but I just did the poor mans trigger job and it made a noticable difference.
Thanks Ultima-Ratio ![]() |

triggers
Sir:
I will tell you - "trigger jobs" are all fraught with danger. The safest thing to do is send it to Ruger. Harry B. |

Are you saying Id (we'd) be better off sending my gun to Ruger for trigger work rather than a local smith?

trigger work
tomh1426: send to a "gunsmith",, Ruger doesn't do custom trigger work.
You have a good foundation firearm. Talk to your 'gunsmith' tell him or her what you ?would? like. Talk about how you would like the ?feel? Listen to the suggestions. Springs can be adjusted after the polishing and buffing. If he or she makes you feel inadequate; move on. Just because he or she has all these credentials and cannot spend time with you. nuff said.
