XD9mm Possible Defect in Barrel?
![]() The ring is raised and not smooth like the rest of the barrel when I run my finger down the barrel with the slide racked back, you can feel a raised ring. Has anyone noticed this on their XD9mm. I have only shot WWB 115gr FMJ ammo or Remington white and green box target 115 grain ammo. No +P ammo or high grain personal defense ammo in it. Is this something I should be concerned with? ![]() |

Barrel
After looking on the net I ran across Springfields site that had a close up view of a Xd 9 that was identical to mine. Never noticed that before but then someone said something to me about that ring, and if it was safe to shoot like that. I told them it hadn't killed me yet but then I started 2nd guessing myself. Found on the website below. Just wanted to make sure that it wasn't something Springfield overlooked.

Raised Ring Normal?
I was glad to see this in the picture before I found that picture and saw other pistols of the Xd in articles and noticed the same thing I emailed Springfield and awaiting their response will post their reply once I recieve it.
You can actually feel a raised ring that is not smooth like the rest of the barrel once the slide is racked back. http://springfield-armory.primediaou.../SPstory23.php |

Did you take off the slide and try to feel for something that might cause this?

Barrel
No but I will have to check that. Judging by the other pics I have saw it looks identical to the pic of the barrel in the other website article. Springfield is open Monday through Friday and I am awaiting their response. Im sure if there is something wrong they will make it right. Since there is lifetime warranty on all their products. I figure it would be better safe than sorry but many websites on the Springfield XD have showed this.
I don't think Sprinfield would have showed it up close if there was a problem, I emailed them the serial number off the gun as a precaution just in cause there was production defect in certain batches. Im sure that their is nothing wrong with it anybody that has a Springfield Xd seen this on theirs? http://springfield-armory.primediaou.../SPstory23.php |

My XD9 service has these marks and slight raised ring. It appears normal and happens due to complete forward position of slide locking barrel in place. I have about 1500 rounds fired. Also, I did notice slight marks even with the gun new.

Got a response from Springfield about the XD.
Hi Mr.XD9mm,
The Ring you are describing and that is shown in the picture is caused from the barrel going into battery each time a round is chambered. This is perfectly normal and should be of no concern to you. The barrel in that area is a little bit thicker to take up the space between the barrel and the slide which helps in accuracy. If you have any other questions please give me a call at 1-800-680-6866 ext 8948. Thank You for your continued interest in Springfield Armory products. Can't understand why you'd need somebody from Springfield to point out something that, by your own postings, was obvious.
