Cleaning

After a day of shooting, my stainless pistol looks black. I can’t seem to get all the crap off when cleaning it. What are people using to clean their guns? Is there some sort of solvent that will dissolve the burn residue? Thanks.

Breakfree CLP works well. Breakfree is Cleaner, Lubricant, and Protector all in one. The other product that works well is a good TV show that you can watch at the same time.

For my stainless revolvers

Lead away cloth is the best thing I've found to clean those stubborn rings from the front of the cylinder and between the forcing cone and the top strap. I use M-PRO 7 for the rest.

Not sure if this is the right forum for cleaning though.

Hoppes Elite foaming cleaner is good. I find that if I coat everything (this stuff tends to stay put) and come back 20 - 30 minutes later, it comes off much easier. I guess they all work better when given time to chemically dissolve the gunk.

I used Gun Scrubber to deep clean all my gun and parts. Then apply Eezox. Never have to worry about what you experience after that. It makes cleaning, lubing, and protection a breeze from here on...

This is my experience, but the other posters have good points also. There's more than one way to skin a cat...

Hey thanks for all the advise. Being such a newbie to reloading, do different powders burn cleaner than others?
