Shto stroking a pump..?
I bought a remington 870 HD gun the other day and finally got to shoot it. Anfter the first shot, I pulled the trigger and ....click....checked the chamber and NO SHELL. pumped it again and got the shell in and bang again...two more with no problems but again on the 5th. Did I just short stoke it? Not used to an 870 (I have a browning) and wondering if I only pumped it enough to eject, but not to load the next shelll......what do you think

Did you clean it prior to shooting? Even new guns should be cleaned and lubed prior to shooting.

That really does sound like a short stroke.
Practice with an exagerated motion. Shoot again and see if the problem goes away. It took me a while to get used to the longer stroke of my 3 1/2 inch guns. I grew up shooting the shorter shells. Charles |

yeah I bought 4 safety snap caps for just this reason. That way I can practice....or use them for education with a new shooter at the range..before I move over to live ammo. I actually got some metal ones..painted hiviz black and orange..with primers on springs..

I have a snap cap, but only one, need to pick up a few more. Gun was stripped, cleaned , and lubed before firing. I think I just didn't "jerk" hard enough. The action is smooth, but my browning is like butter. I will try it again this weekend and see.

Check the magazine for hang-ups...
Sounds to me like it's feeding intermittently. ![]() |

Are you new to pumps ?? Many that are try to be gentile when they operate the gun. That will cause problems. try vigorously operating the gun ,don't worry they're made for that.

Not new to pumps. I have a browning, but it is so smooth that it probably has spoiled my technique. Ran 5 rounds of 00 buck through it last night without a hitch. I think I was just short stroking.
