Winchester model 50

...I found and bought a NIB Winchester model 50 shotgun about a month ago..still haven't taken a Saturday to go out and try yet...the price sure seemed good and the gun had not even been screwed together yet(had every piece of paperwork including the hang tag)......it looks and feels like a nice semi-automatic..some people I asked about it either didn't have an opinion or were nuetral, some others praised it highly...I need to try it next weekend and see for myself...

was made in the 50's, the barrel is actually fiberglas over a thin tube.
It sought after by uplabd hunters as the barrel allow nice follow thru on birds.
Check gunbroker for idea of current pricing.
It will handle current ammo, I don't think it a go idea to use steel shot in it.

Actually, the Model 50 was made with conventional steel barrels; it was the Model 59 that had the "Win-lite" (steel and fiberglass) barrels. Both models were recoil-operated (non-recoiling barrels); the model 59 employing the "short recoil" system (as, perhaps, did the Model 50-not sure about that).

The Model 50 was produced with both steel and aluminum receivers; the Model 59 only with alloy receivers. The concept of interchangeable chokes (marketed with the moniker "Versalite") was introduced with the Model 59.

My sources indicate that the Model 50 was manufactured from 1954 through 1961, with over 196,000 of them being made, starting with serial number 1,000. One in 100% condition was valued in 2003 at $500.00-though this estimate seems awfully conservative to me.
