ak trigger work

I have a romanian ak clone. I get a lot of trigger slap with it, to the point of being distracting. I've heard of modifying the disconnector to stop this, does anyone have any ideas? I've taken it all the way down and lightly polished the internals, nothing major, just knocking the cast marks off.I know that I can put in a Red Star trigger group but as it's just before Christmas I don't want to spend the money.Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Here's how to fix it:

Also, lightly chamfer the hole in the disconnecter the spring fits in to insure the spring isn't hanging up on the sharp edge and transferring some resistance to the trigger.

Try the fix at the link in DFarisWheel's post. If that doesn't work to your satisfaction, replace the FCG with a single-hook Tapco G2 FCG. The G2 set is about half the cost of the Red Star Arms unit and works really well.

All AK-47's and copies with a single hook trigger will have trigger slap, It is easy to convert it to a double hook trigger, you will have to cut out a notch on the bottom of the receiver just like the one on the other side of the trigger. I find that a dremmel with a cutoff wheel is the best tool for the job. The receiver metal on rather soft so go slow, best thing to do is scribe the cut marks with a sharp carbide scriber, then with the striped receiver make the cuts and remove just enough metal to allow the double hook trigger to travel it's full length of pull. A thin metal file is helpful in enlarging and squaring the cut. Nest the back side of the disconnector needs to be cut off and contoured. I don't have any pictures handy or know of any web sites that show this. The disconnector that comes with most all AK's are the full auto version as they use surplus parts.

After the conversion you will not have any trigger slap.

A good article with pictures and diagrams to modify the disconnector can be found here.

Good luck and enjoy
