Rifle Auctions
Besides Auction arms.com what are some other sites to look at for rifle auctions?

I and a number of other folks have been burned by unscrupulous 'sellers' on GunBroker. GunBroker provides no mechanisms by which you can address a deal gone bad. Moreover, GunBroker will effectively shield these scumbags by erasing any negative feedback that you provide, and by dis-usering you for complaining.
I will never again do business on GunBroker. I use AuctionArms (and eBay, for parts) and have been very happy with that. |

gunbroker does have insurance for anything over $500 with a $100 deductable. wont work for small purchases, but for guns its a good insurance. gunbroker seems to bee the biggest and has the most traffic , imo.

Actually, the GunBroker fraud insurance is for items up to $500, not over it (minus the $100 deductible). This means that if you're buying or selling that custom Weatherby MkV or a pre-64 Win70, the auction site itself will be of little help if the deal goes bad. Moreover, if the item is worth $200, you're gonna take at least a 50% bath if the deal goes south for some reason. http://www.gunbroker.com/User/FraudInsurance.asp
What they don't tell you in the 'fraud insurance' page is that the auction also has to be for an item in excess of $100. This means that the seller of any item sold on the site for less than $100 doesn't have to deliver the item at all or can materially misrepresent the item within impunity (at least insofar as the auction site in concerned). http://www.gunbroker.com/User/FraudClaimProcess.asp This is the most common fraud on the site - folks that sell magazines and 'MilSurp' parts (usually for check/MO only) that misrepresent their wares and then skate under the radar due to the 'fraud insurance' loophole. I suspect that these shady sellers are the ones that make the most money for the site, due to their sheer volume. As a result, GunBroker has IMO deliberately structured their 'fraud protection' to give the appearance of being buyer-friendly when in fact they're protecting their bread-n-butter sellers. What's worst of all, experience has also shown (not to me, but to others) that if you leave negative feedback for a seller, GunBroker will at the sellers request remove the negative feedback and potentially will revoke the account of the buyer. How's that for 'buyer-friendly'? I've used AuctionArms for many purchases, and been quite happy with the deals and the quality of the sellers. |
