Rem XP-100 or Lone Eagle in .308 ?

Am considering one of the above for silhouettes out to 550 yd. Rem selling for $560; Lone Eagle for same with Burris 3x scope (which 3x, I don't know yet). Do you think either is a deal worth chasing?

I know both are out of production. What was their reputation when they were current?

Don't know anything about the Lone Eagle but have had numerous XP's over the years, 221 Fireball, 6mm/284, 7-08, 7 IHMSA, 308 and 338CJMK. All have shot very well and never had any problems with them....

Personally I'd stick with a proven winner.

I would pick the XP-100, and also look at the Savage Striker, I have one in 308 and it shoots great........I haven't looked at all the calibers it comes in, I wanted a 308 and bought it......

The trigger on the Lone Eagle is TERRIBLE....and it can't be fixed.

Definitely either go with the XP-100 or Savage Striker.

I have the LONE EAGLE in 308. Really enjoy the gun especially the cannon style breech. My triggers fine a little bit on the light side but that works fine on this gun. It also quite easy to adjust the trigger pulll

Look at what most sihlouette shooters use. Contenders, ENcores, XP-100's, RPM XL's. You rarely see Lone Eagles at a match. There are reasons for it.

I have a Lone Eagle in 7mm-08 which I purchased from CDNN. Topped it with a scope and use it for deer hunting, silhouette, and long-range target. I've got no complaints with the trigger.

I would suggest a Contender or Encore. They are every bit as accurate as an XP100. Plus, you can change calibres or convert to a rifle anytime you want...funds permitting =). Also, there is tons of after market support for the T/C platforms.

I used a 4x scope for 200meters, and I actually do better with open sights at 500meters than with the scope. This is on the Raging bull, of course, so "better" is relative

Considering you have a time limit in silhouette, I would think the Lone Eagle would be a disadvantage there as well.

I think I would choose a contender over a Lone Eagle.

Lone Eagle!!!!
I have a .308 Lone Eagle. It blew up a Tasco Pro-point in 7 rounds! Talk about FUN!!!! That thing (especially with the muzzle break) is LOUD!!!
With the break on it there IS a noticeable differance in recoil.
