Pumice on Stainless?
I've caught the wood refinishing bug and have been refinishing everything I can get my hands on. I really like the effect of polishing out an oil finish with pumice and rottenstone. Makes me wonder how the pumice would work on a shiney stainless finish. I have a 1911 with a few scratches on the slide flats I'd like to remove.
Any input would be appreciated. Thanks Noban |

It would be very tough to "rub out" a scratch on the slide and have it "blend in" with the rest of the slide. You could easily wind up making it more unsightly than you think it is now. Then you end up refinishing the whole gun, sending it out for bluing or parkerizing.
If you want to polish it, a cloth wheel on a dremel (or on a bench grinder motor) will work. Use a jeweler's rouge or other metal polish. I don't think pumice or rottenstone would work as well. Personally, I'd probably just accept the scratches. Regards. |

This is usually done by blasting with very fine glass beads in a cabinet having a transparent top to check progress of the work. This particular job is for the experienced only..
