Hammer block rattle on a model 28

The hammer block rattles (when not cocked) on a model 28 S&W that I recently bought. It's kind of annoying but doesn't seem to affect anything. Is it anything to worry about?

Nothing to worry about, it's normal. If it really bothers you, a little grease in the sideplate groove it rides in will quiet it. Just don't use too much. The hammer block need to move freely.

Good Luck...

Perfectly normal for it to rattle. The hammer block is held in place by a groove milled into the sideplate and by a stud projecting from the rebound slide. It's that up/down movement on the stud of the rebound slide that gives you that rattling sound. Time it to music and you won't be bothered.

I kinda figured that was the case, but had to ask. A few weeks ago, I took the sideplate off, inspected it (looked fine) and put a touch of Rig on it, but it still rattled. Thanks for the info.

When you get older you won't notice it.
Deaf has some benefits.
