Just Beginning

I am just beginning to think abour reloading for .45 use. Shoot about 300 rounds a month. How much to get stated with a basic setup for .45, .38, and .357? Where do I get the equiptment as I have no one locally who can provide it at retail. Would like to take my sport to a higher level.

Took your advise Freightman

Ordered the Lee Anniversity Reloading Kit from Midway. Also picked up the .45 cal. die set, all under a hundred bucks. Alot cheaper than ordering from Lee's inself. I have a .45 cal. SA Champion. Do I get .451 dia. bullets or can I go larger? I just use the gun to shoot at targets at the range, no competion shooting.
Saw Remington .45 FMJ .451 dia. in Midway, buy them and get started or should I look at something else? Price was right. I also need brass...... any suggestions? If I am being a pain in the ass let me know.

Potential newbie

Hello, Reloaders!

I've been into handguns in earnest for about a year. I have a 9mm CZ 75B and a "vintage" S&W .38 Special. I shoot about 60-70% 9mm to 30-40% .38. I realize prople get into reloading for many reasons...to save money over factory ammo, to create their own "personalized" loads, etc. At this point, I would be mainly after the $ saving aspect. Thing is, I can buy decent 9mm ammo for about $5.00/50rnds. Would I have to buy components in huge quantities to load it much cheaper myself? I plan to aquire handguns in the .357, .45 acp, and possibly .40 calibers eventually. I know that this is where the factory stuff starts to get 'spensive! For the present, does it make sense to get into reloading if I mainly shoot 9mm? Thanks!

Get at least two manuals. Read em, cover to cover.
Suggest one of them be Lyman Reloading Handbook.
Winchester and Hodgon both have online data.

Also TFL member Steve Sricciardelli has a wealth of info at...

Make sure to get a set of calipers to measure dimensions...especially overall length (OAL). And a kinetic bullet puller. Midway has both.
