new .40 load

My standard .40 SW load is a 180 g hp with 6.9 g of Power Pistol. It gets around 1050 fps in my P226. I want to keep on with the same bullets but am looking for a powder with less flash and recoil but which will give me the same velocity and accuracy. Any suggestions? Thanks

I'd suggest trying Hodgdon HS-6. It is my powder of choice for 40 S&W loading. Power Pistol is a good powder, but as you noted, it does have a good bit of muzzle flash.

If you want to keep your 180gr bullet moving at the same velocity, but with a different powder, the recoil will be the same.

The flash is due to the amount of powder you are using, reduce your powder by 1/2 grain (6.4) and it will decrease the amount of unburnt powder you are shooting out the barrel. While keeping pretty much the same fps. I not absolutly sure but your sig is a 3.5 inch barrel and the charge sounds like it is for a 5 inch.

You're going to get flash with Power Pistol (just the nature of the beast) even at, reduced charges. For the velocity you're shooting for, Ramshot Silhouette will get you there with the least flash you're gonna' get.
