Steven's 311 A Ejector

Hi all. I just picked up a nice .410 with Walnut Stocks and case coloring. Very pleased with how it shoots and handles. Question: do these old guns actually eject the shells? I have to pull mine out. The action is stiff and tight as it appears to have been shot very little. I wonder if this is a factor.

I'm not sure if the ejector should have a spring or not. When broken down it will move back and forth about a little 1/4 inch or so with no resistance. Is this normal? I really don't know. Thanks.

Most of them just extract the shells. You have to pull them out manually. They did make a few with ejectors, but they aren't common. They are basically the same gun but are known as the Savage B-SE. The B-SE has a single trigger and always fires the right barrel 1st. The ones with 2 triggers just extract.

If you reload, you will quickly come to appreciate the extractors. Especially at what .410 shells cost.

Nah. The "ploonk" sound of an ejected shell will always trump extractors for me.
Plus, how else are you supposed to hit your friend in the face from a distance without them expecting it?

I reload .44 Shot (.44-40 based), .410 (2", 2.5", and 3"), 20 ga, 16 ga (BP and smokeless), and 12 ga (BP and smokeless). I would reload 28 ga if I had one.
I will happily let any of those shells - even the brass ones - hit the ground as long as I get a satisfying "plooonk" with ejection.

Ploonk capability runs the cost up, though. At least for selective ejectors on a double. Most singles trip the ejector when you open the gun and will toss out a live round same as a fired hull.
