Need to swage SPEER casings??

I got a bunch of Speer .223 range brass, and in loading them I found the primers didn't want to seat until I swaged the casings, like they were crimped military brass. The headstamps are simply SPEER .223 REM.

Just curious, does Speer crimp their civilian brass?

Yes, you need to swage them on two counts: First and foremost, you couldn't seat them without swaging, so apparently, you do need swaging, regardless of the reason. Second, there has been an increase in the number of swaged commercial loads. I don't know why that has changed, but you have probably found an example of that.
