Savage edge/axis rebuild questions

I have an early Savage edge from before it was renamed axis. I would like to put a heavy barrel on it in 308 and wasn't sure what shank size was needed

Also my plan was to order a laminate stock from Boyd's but you can only order the heavy barrel channel for the axis 2. Is the inlet different between them or was it just the trigger that was different?

The trigger inlet is definitely different but the Accutrigger on the Axis 2 takes up a lot more space in the stock than the Edge trigger did so you should be good there.. Those rifles are small shank if I remember correctly. The easiest way to find out is to measure the length of the barrel nut. If memory serves me correctly th barrel nut on the small shank is 7/8 long.

Other than that the action screw spacing should be the same. Also they use the same recoil lug system.

Awesome. So I shouldn't run into any problems with the stock.

To my knowledge Kilo is right, it should be a small shank.
Check the spacing on your action screws to make sure the stock will work.
Should be 4.4" if memory serves.
