Smith 909 mags or lack thereof

Just bought a S&W model 909 for short money just because. It only came with one mag so I am currently searching for some spares. Problem is everyone is out of stock or backordered. I found some aftermarket mags from ProMag available. Does anyone know how reliable their products are? My other alternative is spending $79 on ONE mag on ebay.

As far as I know, the S&W 39, 439, 539, 639, 909, 952, 3904, 3906, 3944 and 3946 all use the same magazines.

I heard a couple were interchangeable but also was hearing that some that were supposedly interchangeable weren't locking in properly. some of the sites were listing the 3904 and 909 together so I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the help.

Only 3904, 3906, 909 (obviously!), and 952 mags will work in this pistol. The Model 909 is a 3rd-generation 9mm full-size single-stack S&W, and these pistols use a slightly longer grip frame than the previous generations. 3rd-gen mags will work in the earlier pistols, but NOT vice versa.

Mag availability is a downside to the 3rd-gens; IMHO the only decent option is factory mags, which run expensive and go through periodic supply droughts. Recommend you avoid Promags. Also, 3rd-gen compact mags (391x, 395x, and 908) are too short. OTOH, OEM 3904 & 3906 mags only hold 8rds, and 3904 mags are blued rather than SS, but these mags are the correct length and WILL work in a 909.

BTW the 3944 & 3946 are "phantoms"- these numbers would have been used for the DAO versions, but it's believed that none were ever sold.

Thanks for the help sorting out those models. I don't care if the mags are ss or blued as long as they work.
