Sig Mosquito firing pin install ?????
I bought a used Mosquito and I'm having the usual problems with FTF, FTE and other classic Mosquito problems. Why did I buy it?, I haven't met a challenge I didn't like. It looks like the previous owner must have dry fired the pistol a number of times. It appears the firing pin striker face has fractured. I test fired and examined the case, the firing pin strike looked more like the mark a knife blade would make than the rectangular shape you normally get with a flat firing pin. There is a crater on the breech just above the recess for the rim. This was made by the firing pin. I polished the raised edge to level with rest of the breech. It appears the pistol jammed and the owner tried to move the breech block back by using a screw driver, there are marks in the metal on top.
I definitely want to replace the firing pin. Are there instructions anywhere on how to replace the firing pin? Or where can I buy a firing pin, the Sig Sauer web site has very few parts available.
Apparently the owner had a problem disassembling the pistol, it looks like he took pliers to the takedown lever to get it to turn. This was a fit problem from the factory, the take down lever insert did not fit the hole made for it and the insert would not fit into the lock and the lock would not fit into the slot made for it. Careful filing and finishing with 400 grit eliminated those problems.
The recoil spring I have is 3.5 inches long, is this the standard or high velocity spring?
The double action pull on this pistol must be 25#. That is criminal, the single action pull must be close to 8#. Any suggestion on getting these numbers in line with the real world. They are tough on my arthritic hands.
Everyone needs a hobby, making this pistol work like a Sig Sauer should is my goal.
