Full size non 1911 .45

Considering two different types either Sig P220 or Glock 21 . Would like to hear from owners of each pros and or cons?

I don't own either but have shot both quite a bit. I find the 21 to be way to big in the grip area making the gun difficult for me to control. The Sig on the other hand is comfortable to shoot and some what concealable. I should add that the 21 is my least favorite of all the Glocks and I carry a P series Sig.

I own both and really like both.

The Gen4 Glock 21 feels wonderful in the hand -- the gen3 and even gen3 SF models felt too large for me.

The Glock 21 is the softest shooting 45 I have shot... more than the Sig, more than my TRP 1911(full stainless)... I don't know how they do it. I also shoot it very accurately. Mine has not had a single failure in about 3k rounds. Wonderful gun.

The Sig P220 is a spectacular 45. It is single stack, so capacity is limited as it is in a 1911. The P220 is great if you want a gun somewhat like a 1911 but not the single-action and safety stuff of the 1911. Trigger pull is smooth. Concentrated shots are very accurate but under stress, I still shoot the Glock 21 better.

They are both awesome guns... but they are pretty distinctly different. The Glock is higher capacity, cheaper, super low maintenance, easy to customize and/or get parts for.

The Sig is prettier, most expensive, lower capacity, but it's a work of art. It's super reliable, but might need a little more care than the Glock - grease on the slide rails and such.

I guess budget and intended use would have to come into play for which you get. With the Glock, you can convert it to 10mm, 45 super, and 460 rowland. Not sure if there are similar conversion barrels for the Sig. I've only ever shot 45acp out of mine.

I've shot both quite a bit and you're not going to make a bad choice, either way. If concealed carry was an issue I'd get the 220 (which has a sweet SA trigger) or split the diff with a G30. You can always carry a G21 mag with the 30, if you choose.

Just gonna be a range toy gun to replace one I sold. I only carry revolvers.

I have a 220, great pistol with nice trigger.
If you want a range gun, the FNX45 is another nice pistol.

In that case, I'd say to go with the 220. It's a great range gun.

I have and love my Glock 21, I also have shot a friends P220 and really enjoy it as well. I doubt you could go wrong with either one.

Eh, I had both. The 220 has a really high bore axis, fumbly controls and limited capacity. I didn't care for how flat the grip was. Trigger return spring is a weak point...mine snapped during a match.

The 21 is a brick with a weird grip angle but had a huge capacity. Never jammed. I just couldn't handle the unnatural angle.

My CZ 97b solved everything, but I digress.

You may want to look at the new Sig 227 instead if you are stuck on a Sig.

There's also the M&P 45 provided you replace the guts with an Apex kit.

If it's just a range toy, then Sig all the way. The Sig SA trigger is superior to any striker fire trigger, and that is how you will be shooting it at the range. If you are not going to carry this weapon, there is little to no point worrying about the DA side of the Sig trigger or that it even exists.

I like Glocks - currently own two but have owned more (including the G21) - and I like Sigs - currently own none but have owned a number (including the P220) - and I still say Sig wins the range war every time. The only thing important for range duty is grip comfort/fit, trigger quality, and sight quality - not capacity, fit, finish, controls, safeties, durability, brand name, etc. For range use, the least safe and durable pistol can be the most effective shooter.

Another thought - if just a range toy, look into the SAO P220. Those are nice.

Even though I love P226s, I'm not a fan of the P220. Feels too narrow in the hand. If you want a single stack 45 get a 1911. My vote goes to the Gen4 G21. 13+1 rds of 45.

ETA: If you are fixed on the SIG I would get the P227. The frame dimensions are the same as the P226 but it is a double stack 45 that holds 10+1.

glock 21...I have big palms so it fits great plus it is very reliable. I like the 220 but have to think about my grip which isn't a good thing, but the trigger is nice.

Before you focus on the details of the two models there is, IMHO a fundamental question to ask which is, 'Which operating system do you prefer? A hammer-fired DA/SA system or a striker-fired SA system?'.
Having fired both, and with a pair of H&K USP's in my safe, I can unequivocally say that for me, the DA/SA design is an old fashioned and less controllable design. It does have the merit, if you consider this a positive, of offering a safety in workflow of operation. Many now feel that the double trigger safety on Glock's and others preclude the need for a safety.
But whichever side of the gun-OS fence you fall on will help you answer your question.
I happen to feel that the Sig is one of the best DA/SA designs available though my personal preference is for an H&K (either USP or newer models) but that's just because the H&K's can be configured for left-handed shooters.
For SA striker-fired OS's, I've come to believe that you can't beat a Glock.
Thus, I'd choose the Glock.
B

edit: having re-read the thread I should also add that for me, I don't differentiate a range gun from any other usage. That is, I shoot and practice at the range to ensure I'm at the top of my game for any other mode of use.

...Glocks are not single action... They are double action only...
