Mini 14 Disassembly - Need Help!
My rifle is jammed with a snap cap in the chamber. The slide can't be retracted and the 'safety' can't be put into the 'on' position, so I can't disassemble the rifle. According to the owner's manual the safety must be on, the mag removed, and the trigger guard pried up to release the trigger assembly.
I removed the mag but can't do any of the other things; it's jammed firmly. Is there any way that I can remove the trigger group, get the gun apart and remove the bolt without damaging it? Help!! Thanks in advance, Shep Last edited by Shep; May 26, 2013 at 05:51 PM. |

Won't the snap cap come out by using a rod or dowel down the barrel?
Tap on the dowel, and pull on the handle at the same time. Might need a friend, though. Or tap the dowel on a hard surface, muzzle down, while pulling on the handle. |

I would sugest that you place the but of the stock against soft ground and strike the op-rod handle with your foot. Its a tough rifle I don't believe you will hurt it any.
If you don't want to do that. You could reach into the action with a small screw driver or rod and reset the hammer. It should be resting against the bolt that is why you can't apply the safety and dissassemble. |

Resetting the hammer and putting some force on the handle did the trick!
'Wish I'd thought of that. Thank you, Gents! I learn something new every time I visit TFL. Thanks again. |

If you decide to brute force it in the future, it is generally recommended you hold the charging handle and fore-stock as if charging the rifle then hit the butt of the rifle on the ground with increasing force until the action releases.
I wouldn't try it with a tapco stock or on concrete, but I have used the method with success on a couple of wood stocked rifles. |
