CZ 75...Convince me

I'm in the market for a compact 9mm. I want to use as bedside gun and possibly CCW. I also want something I can start to do some USPSA, so I want to stay away from the sub compacts. I was going back and forth between the M&P shield and the G19. Someone suggested a compact CZ75. Admittedly I hadn't looked into it when I was searching.

The Shield doesn't have the capacity I'd like, and the G19 has issues with shooting cast lead reloads. Is the CZ75 the best of both worlds?

Convince me.

Thanks

A S&W M&P9c has a 13 rd capacity and could be what you're looking for. I've had mine for 5 years and it's excellent.

Try to find a cZ to shoot and after doing so, you will be convinced.

If you want to play shooting games a CZ-75 is a good choice. If you want a dependable personal protection gun there are many better choices. I wouldn't try to make 1 gun do both. If I only wanted 1 gun I'd choose the best gun for personal protection and use it to play games rather than the other way.

cz will soak up more recoil due to its all metal construction. (not sure if its steel or alum) also the grips are interchangable.

Downside it will be alot heavier to carry.

There are a lot of great choices in double stack compact size handguns. Try some out to see what works for you. A lot will also depend if you have a preference for hammer fired or striker fired. Poly frame pistols also have an advantage in lighter weight since you mention possibility of CCW.

I would strongly recommend you check out the poly frame Walther PPQ and P99 AS if you can find any. The poly frame SIG SP2022 would also be another good choice to look at if you are considering hammer fired pistol in the mid price range.

Good luck.

I started looking at 9mm's because ammo was so cheap and I wouldn't have to reload it, (there's a plan gone south). at any rate I purchased a CZ 85 combat and found it to be everything I wished the BHP, I foolishly sold, would be. I liked it so much I bought a PCR. It's a compact version of the 75BD. 14 rounds, alloy frame, with a decocker that is every bit as accurate as the 85 combat, Trigger is a bit stiff out of the box but seems to be getting better every time I take it to the range. At about half the weight of a 1911 this pistol has really grown on me and I highly recommended it. Other versions are available the 75 compact has an all steel frame with a safety and the P01 is the same as a PCR with a light rail. Both of my pistols seem to prefer 124gr. +P loads.

My main carry gun is the CZ-75D PCR, and you will be hard pressed to find a better pistol for that purpose. It is also a good range, and home defense gun. P-01's are easier to come by though, and are also excellent.

the pcr is aluminum or some other kind of alloy. the 75b compact is steel i believe. not sure about the p-01.

i have a pcr. i like it. the only thing i don't like is the curved baseplate. it digs into my love handles. i'm sure you can find mags that don't have this tho.

it's the bottom left in both pictures. the others are walther ppq and pps on top and the hk p7 psp on the bottom.

For those that are cheap, Academy has the canik55/tristar c100.

Great pistol and well made for the price.

Just ordered a C100. It's an alloy version of the compact. Got fantastic reviews and for 360 shipped w the transfer fee, tax, tag and title out the door....can't beat it. I'm really looking forward to picking it up today and shooting it some (may even cut out early.....)

I also ordered a spring kit from Cajun Gun Works to help lighten the long DA trigger. Figure this cheap little beauty will be perfect for me to learn some gunsmithing on!

Loose Holster, which holsters are you using? I ordered a N8^2 holster for mine. Got pretty good reviews and figured I would give them a shot w this little piece.

The 75D PCR and the P-01 are both compacts with lightweight, aluminum alloy frames. The CZ "Compacts" are all steel pistols.

The CZ Compact wil serve you better than many other pistols made today. You just have to decide what you want - DA/SA steel frame, (Compact), DA decocker alloy frame, (PCR), or the DA/decocker with M3 rail, (P-01)? For the best CCW pistol, the PCR is really hard to beat. An oft overlooked one is the CZ 2075 RAMI.
loosed holster dan, the curved metal baseplates are hard to come by now - you could probably trade those off for the plastic ones quickly.
For incredible leather to go with your compact CZ, I personally recommend High Noon.

Wife's RAMI in High Noon Double Jeopardy

P-01 with Crimson Trace Lasergrips in High Noon Double Jeopardy.

Actually Tekarra said that, not jmr - jmr hates CZ and everything that goes with them.
If the OP was anywhere near the south center of AZ I could arrange for him to try a few.

CZ75 is great gun. But, it would not be my choice for concealed carry. Just keep in mind, most good range guns/home defense guns just aren't 1st choices for CC. That being said, if CC is not a high priority, I'd pick the CZ75 over the others....preferably in a nice blued (not painted) finish. If I couldn't find a nice blued one, I'd opt for the mat stainless.

Unfortunately not near AZ, thanks for the offer though. I'm kind of resigning to the fact that I'll need a separate gun for concealed carry, not the worst excuse to buy two guns.

my main gripes against CZ 75 is the weight, the take down, and the smaller serrations. Its a great platform and I would heartily recommend one.

CZ75

I've been shooting a CZ75 P07 Duty quite a bit. My opinion of the pistol grows and is that it's very very good. The grip alone is worth the price of admission as it feels ergo perfect for me. The grip feels like a "single stack" yet is 16 round capacity. A natural pointer with very low recoil, quite accurate, and no malfunctions of any kind. It's getting to be that several plastic pistols are so good it's hard to find fault. The CZ75 P07 Duty is among the best in doing it's job.

if this is the case, look at the walther pps for carry if you're ok with poly. if not, the hk p7 is a fantastic steel gun.

How about no. Go shoot one and convince yourself, either you'll like it or you won't.

You might look at the EAA Witness

The Witness is an improved model 75/97. I have a 45 ACP (more or less a CZ 97 updated) and it is a nice gun. They have nice big serrations on the slide. The guns are made in Italy by Tanfoglio.

They have polymer frame variants as well. Once nice thing is that the steel frame model can be converted to 9mm, 40 S&W, 22LR, and 10mm. The conversions may require some fitting, but I have read that people have great results with the 22 slide kit and it is not crazy expensive (a lot less than the CZ Kadet conversion).

The take down is like a CZ I think - align the dots and pop the slide lock from the right side. Takes a little practice, but using the corner of a table means you don't have to juggle a tool.

Another option is the Magnum Research Baby Desert Eagle II, which is another updated CZ75 style pistol. It is made by IWI in Israel and used to be called the Jericho. They use a slide mounted safety that is not to my liking, but are supposed to be a high quality pistol.

Check out some youtube reviews on the Witness - the people that have them love them.

My Tristar C100 came in yesterday as well as my spring kit from Cajun Gun Works, but it all in and went to the range today.....all I can say is wow! The spring kit dropped the double action pull to around 8lbs and the SA us right around 5lbs. Thing is accurate, light and a joy to shoot.

Honestly, the total including shipping, transfer, background etc with the spring kit was $375. Best $375 I have ever spent. This is essentially an alloy CZ compact. Needs better sights is my only complaint.

The 75D PCR, and P-01 are CZ's lightweight, alloy framed, compact pistols. None better.
