bought the cadilac of AR mags!!!

i was in the shop an bought all the AR mags he had "used for $10 a pop" an i found i don't wanna say it but a Heckler & Kock 6mbH Restricted Law Enforcement / Government Use Only 10-94!!!!! i went to the H&K website an there going for $60 a piece heck ya!!! the next one i got was a FNH mag but the H&K is the best deal i've ever got.

I found the best mags for the AR are the old standard 20 rd mags for the M16. Made of steel and always worked.

I always figured if I can't do it with 20 rounds the extra 10 are gonna be a waste anyway.

Any in 3 gun, I've never seen the advantage of 30 rounders over the 20.

Plus, like I learned in SE Asia, I only load 18 in the 20s.

The HK steel mags were the thing for a while.

They are a novelty without any real advantage.

Good find, though. Its always nice to add to the collection.

They are a nice find for sure, and very nice mags; but I have never found them to be more durable/reliable than my PMags.

And also, it is Heckler and Koch, GmbH

I always loaded 28 in my 30 rounders, even th PMAGS simply becaus it was easier to seat the mag in the gun.

Had a few of those sold all but 2. The differences are theyre built like a tank, have a steel dual follower, about a 1/2in longer, there fore hold 30 rds better than a standard issue GI mag. When I was in Iraq 06' we were issued them and a few made it home with me. They were the best before P-Mags came out.

I've seen fully loaded Pmags fail to seat properly when inserted into an AR-15 with the bolt closed. I found out the hard way, when running a move-and-shoot course. I had my 30+1, and as soon as I fired my first shot, the mag fell out!

That's why you always do a "tap & tug" when seating on a closed bolt.

I was under the impression that P-Mags were the cadillac of AR magazines. Followed by Lancer Warfighter and Tangodown. P-Mags are so cheap and reliable I dont see buying anything else. I have yet to have a problem with my rifle due to magazine. P-mags are the best.

That isn't the Pmags failing to seat properly, that is you failing to seat the Pmag.

Kraigwy, I also like the metal 20-rounders. But I notice that you said they were steel.

So, since I like to learn things, were the original 1960's 20-round mags made of steel, not aluminum?

Yep! Learning occurred that day.

Even when using quite a bit more than the normal force to try to seat the mags, it didn't always work. If a healthy, athletic 20 year old male cannot get it to seat normally or by really slamming it home, I'd call it a failure to seat properly.
Simple solutions though...don't try to load a full 30 with a closed bolt. Works just about perfect when you don't do that.

The M-16 was DESIGNED to be loaded from the open bolt position. it USUALLY works with the closed bolt, but as has been mentioned, there can be issues with that from time to time.

as for me, I've had PMags in some pretty craptacular places, conditions, and situations, and never had a single problem with them. I even dropped one, which landed lips down, cracked the spine about 1". it dumped 4 rounds out when I picked it up, and then cycled the remaining 26 flawlessly. I tossed it afterwards, but any mag that can fire 26rounds despite critical damage is a winner in my book.

I think i'd call them the Tacoma (inexpensive, rugged, reliable) of magazines, and reserve the caddy title for the H&K ones

I also stumbled across a cheap H&K LEO only mag a couple years ago. Hardly ever use it now, too heavy plus I like good GI or polymer mags.
