Caracal Pistol

From Wikepedia:
The Caracal F and its compact version Caracal C are 9mm handguns manufactured by United Arab Emirates based Caracal International[1], they were unveiled at International Defence Exhibition, Idex 2007 in Abu Dhabi.

The research and development team was led by an Austrian firearms designer Wilhelm Bubits who had designed the Steyr M pistol.

Newly arrived on a competitive market, the Caracal pistol is the first pistol made in the United Arab Emirates. A certificate was issued by the Federal German Armed Forces Testing House WTD 91 in Meppen, Germany in May 2006 after the pistol successfully complied with the NATO D14 standard, the Federal Police Standard and the Federal Armed Forces Technical Purchasing requirements. These tests are the most stringent test protocols ever devised for a service firearm.

Caracal pistols have a low bore axis as seen on this picture when comparing with some of the most popular pistols available on the market. This design makes Caracal pistols more comfortable to shoot and allows an instant aim recovery in rapid shooting sequence.

25,000 Caracal F pistols in 9mm are being delivered to various armies and security forces of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. The manufacturer offers this pistol in 9mm Luger, 9x21mm IMI, .357 SIG and .40 Smith & Wesson.http://www.caracal.ae/home.html

Could it make it to the US one day, looks interesting.

I'm not real wild about the yellow insert on the grip but it looks alright otherwise.

The yellow grip insert can be interchanged with other colors, obviously black looks the best.

The United Arab Emirates already gets enough of my money in weekly fuel purchases in excess of $75.00 to $100.00 per week, or $105.00 per barrel. So if their pistols were ever to make it over this way, I wouldnt give them a penny for anything else. Not even a funny looking handgun.

Just had a look at it. It looks like a Glock knock off. Did anyone notice the "Tractical" Front Stock?

Looks an awful lot like a Steyr to me. Grip inserts are interesting... I guess. Was this an option anyone was really looking for?

Looks something like Steyr meets Glock.

Yet another plastic wondernine style gun. *Yawn*.

Thanks for the heads up

I'd like to test what the grip feels like. Looks more XD-like than Glock-like to me. Will be interesting to see how it fares.

The Caracal pistol caught my attention because its design team was led by Wilhelm Bubits, which previously designed the Steyr M pistol.

With the price of gas and other related petroleum products being so exorbitant, maybe gas stations will offer these free with every fill-up.

I wouldn't mind having one if I could get a "captured" one.

Steyr M and Caracal are kinda cousins. Same designer. The Caracal pistol passed the German Federal Police and the Bundeswehr ( German Armed forces) procurement tests as well as the NATO D 14 test. No other pistol has passed them alll in a row, at first trial and with flying colors yet.
See the outlined shape of the XD and the Caracal, not really the same design.

in order to answer to a few questions I received:

1) Yes, the Caracal pistol has a fully supported chamber.

2) The holster seen in Visier and a few other magazines is the Ghost III modular system holster

Ghost III modular holster for Caracal

Waffen Werks in TN (previously HS 2000 importer) now imports the Caracal pistol.

We have setup a dedicated part of SteyrClub to this pistol with Waffen Werks on board to provide all the latest info. I intend to procure one of these as soon after they hit our shores, and I'll definitely be giving it a thorough review. The most active SteyrClub thread can be found here, in case anyone wants to run through and check it out.

I'm a hopeless Steyr junkie, so this pistol has me pretty excited. It is my hope that Bubits produced something just a little more refined than the M or M-A1 series Steyr pistol I already love...

Wait a second.

Is that a fixed rear sight, forward of the ejection port?

Looks like the bastard child of an XD and an SR9.

Never hurts to have more on the market, though.

Funny; I always thought "Caracal" was something they used to give you at the drive-in theaters to keep the mosquitoes away...

My thought was a rounded Ruger SR-9 slide on a photoshopped combination of a Glock and S&W SV9.

Why do people say this about plastic guns, but if someone comes out with another 1911 variant they just and say there are too many already?

Always wondered that myself.

That "quick sight" looks interesting...........think you could shoot sub MOA with that setup?

The QS option is designed for fast shooting at common self defense distances - I imagine it would work great for that purpose. That said, I wouldn't opt for the QS setup if you plan to do a bunch of 30+ yard target shooting, or if you hope to land those back-flip snap headshots on tangos holding hostages 75 yards...

If the fullsize with standard sights works out for me, I plan to pick up a compact (or sub-compact, if it's released by then) with the QS setup.

Just an update!! The first batch of Caracal pistols are in the air as I speak. I hope to have them at the ware house by late next week. That is pending on US customs as we well know. Watch for updates.

Thanks, Troy Sellars
