Those are all good quality firearms. Rent or borrow an example of each and see which works best for you. You have to decide for yourself which fits your hand the best, which has features you want or need, and which has the best sights or ergonomics. What I like, or somebody else likes, really doesn't matter, what you carry should be what you like, meets your requirements, and you can shoot accurately.

I like the top two choices, either one. If you use a S&W 5946 you're already familiar with that platform. Just smaller and lighter.

Put me down for the G26 too. I had a Gen3 that was flawless and now have a Gen4 that has been flawless as well through 500 rounds. It feeds any ammo without a hiccup and runs fine with a +2 extension so you can carry 13 rounds.
The S&Ws are good guns as well, but if you can only have 1; G26. |

Out of those choices, I'd go for the Sig

My vote goes to the Beretta. I also own the G 26 and both are fine semi-autos. I do have the magazine extensions for the G 26 for my pinkie to rest on. It boils down to personal preference

The Mini Cougar is a great gun, but a touch obscure. Accessories may be less available.
The Glock G26 is just an excellent weapon.

Despite my affection for 3rd-gen S&Ws, I would take the P239 DAK because IMHO the trigger is superior. The S&Ws usually have smooth trigger pulls, but they aren't as short and light as the DAK, and AFAIK they don't have the short-reset feature. The DAK trigger actually resets like a SA trigger and is therefore more difficult to short-stroke than most other DAO designs. OTOH the DAK pistols are generally more expensive than the other choices, and the G26 is an excellent gun too. |

There are no stinkers among those you listed.
I own a Glock 26 (the only Glock I have ever owned) and I really like it. Utterly reliable, and as accurate as many larger pistols. I don't think you will go wrong with one. But if either of the S&Ws give you a familiar feel that bridges nicely to your duty gun, I can sure see why you would consider that to be a positive thing. I'm a bit of a Beretta fan, and Sig sure has its devotees as well, so I wouldn't rule any of them out until you have pawed them a good bit. Heck, that wasn't much help, was it? |

Just out of curiosity, why was the K9 removed?

The lack of any walther is interesting too...not to say that those on the list are not quality firearms, but walther always seems to be the redheaded stepchild of manufactures....atleast I understand how HK may price themselves out of a mass market, but Walthers are not badly priced.

Glock 26.
Besides being super-reliable, this gun is quite accurate and effective for its size. With it, you can indeed take on a situation of being in a convenience store and have to engage two armed thugs. Not sure I'd try that with a 2" Chief's Special.
However, I personally don't like two-finger grips and it makes obtaining a quick grip from the holster considerably more difficult. Add a two-round extension to the magazine and the problem goes away. My G26 has run for nearly 15 years without a single stoppage. |

I have many of the pistols you mentioned and all are good weapons. I have the SW 3953, 3914, mini Cougar (but in .45), Sig 239 and Glocks (but the 19 and 34, not the 26). My 3914 and Sig 239 are set up as DA/SA guns though. If your only choices were the DAO only trigger setup I would probably go with the Glock. It has a better trigger and a shorter reset than the others mentioned. While I don't like the Glock grip angle it is a fine weapon if it fits you, and carries two more rounds than the single stack 9mm choices. Good luck. merry Christmas- oldandslow |

SIG Sauer P239 DA only with a CT lasergrip...
I'd pack the SIG Sauer DA only. Get a Crimsontrace lasergrip & 3 dot night sights.
![]() For carry rounds, I'd use the Hornady TAP or Critical Defense, the Speer Gold Dot short barrel JHP or the Corbon PowRball ammunition. Put Ranger T 124gr 9mmNATO FMJs or Federal EFMJ rounds in your spare mags. ClydeFrog ps; For the P239 always carry at least 2 fully loaded spare mags. |

I'd pick the 3953TSW. First, because it has the same DAO as your 5946 duty gun, and second, because I own a 3953TSW and like it!
![]() Oh, and it's an S&W metal gun... |

I had to look up the mini-cougar, never heard of it.
Of those you can seldom go wrong with the Glock, although the rest are all decent choices too.
