sks gas tube

I've got an issue with my sks. I went out to the range today, and when I was shooting about three rounds in the gas tube the lever popped up. I put it back down ,three rounds and up again. I Shut the gas off and three shots the gas tube lever popped up again. I took the gas piston out and tried it again. Three shots and the gas tube lever popped up again. I took the other piston out so now I've the whole gas system out. Three shoots the gas tube lever popped up again. Any suggestions?

Is this a yugoslav or another nationality. If it is not the gas shut off lever flipping up, and it is the top handguard lever, try bending the lever inward toward the centerline of the rifle. Make sure it hooks into the dent that is suppose to catch that lever on the side of the trunion block.

You can support the lever (right) side against a solid surface, find a round object that is slightly larger than the flared (left) side, and give it a few taps. It will tighten the flare against the rear sight block and give it better friction.

Somewhat common issue, and the recommended fix.

I read that the first time and was totally confused....

I agree with the other gentlemen, bend the lever in until it catches the divet and that should fix your problem.

shut off the gas
Sounds Yugo, the solution is still the same:
it bent outward at some point, you can bend it back.

Bending the lever is only a temporary fix. It will pop up again in a short time.

Tightening the flare is the fix. Trust me.

I'm having the same problem on a norinco Chinese sks the gas tube release lever on the sight comes open after three shoots so how do you go about flaring it wider? I bent it closed and it still does it after 5 to 8 shots...
