Another Kimber (spoiler for the anti-kimber-ites)

A good friend of mine bought this earlier this year, and has only put 130 rounds down range with it. He is a bit strapped for cash and has been bugging me to buy it for the same price the local shops offered (ridiculously low, but given the current economy...).

I paid him $50 more than he was asking, just to avoid any buyer's guilt , and still paid less than $900 for it. It needs a bit of custom work from the Old White Guy's (my) shop. I'm gonna clean up the sear and hammer plus I've got a Brown single side thumb safety and some black micarta grips for it.

Kimber Team Match 9mm

Nice pickup! I had one and traded it off just 6 months ago. I really liked the way it shot.....just didn't like the way it looked. I prefer to have no front slide serrations. But it does definitely looks better with custom grips of some sort.
If yours is a good of a shooter as mine was, you'll be happy.

Oh, and if you're curious....I traded even up for a Browning hi-power with a beautiful blued finish and an EAA witness compact.

Didn't spoil anything for me. Kimbers do work once in a while.

I like some of them pretty well, and this one runs great, even with my 10-round Metal Form mags...

Here's an updated picture with different grips, I haven't changed out the safety yet, may wait to see how many rounds it takes for this one to break! It did get a standard guide rod and plug though.

Yeah...so far, each of the eight I have owned have worked just fine. Been carrying one or another for years now.
More than I can say for some (most) of the the other 1911 manufacturers that I have owned ...or a number of other manufacturers who specialize in CCW-type pistols.

I don't know if the gun will run or not but I'm sure glad you changed those grips.

That's a nice looking gun, congrats. Looks like you already have the right mags, do you plan on carrying that beast.

DonGlock; Most people complaining don't own one, they are "parroting" what they read on the internet, which is way too easy to do. Its approached childishness....

I've never had any problem being an owner of both Kimbers and Colts, nor has anyone else I know or shoot with.

I have asked several complainers several times, "what was the problem with your Kimber?", no response so far....

My next 1911 will be a 3", possibly a Colt Defender or Kimber Ultra CDP II 3". I feel comfortable buying either.

And by the way, I agree with changing the grips on the OPs pistol!

Nice looking Kimber ..... and as you, I got tired of listening to the "negative" advise of others ...... and bought a Kimber this year. Nothing some quality magazine would'nt cure.
I've always sided with those who have a "positive" outlook ......

As both sides of the fence have some facts of the cases correct, it's also been the yay AND nay sayers dismissing arguments of ones' opposing view.

As much as I'd LOVE to extoll on these vices/virtues, this isn't the thread to do it. I highly recommend others to do the same by focusing the topic at hand.

BTW, congratulations on your aquirement. I do have to ask why you're wanting to mess with the trigger. One thing I do give Kimber is many of their models have pretty good feel of their triggers.

very nice

It seems a person can't show a photo of their gun without negative comments, by someone partial to "their" brand of choice. In my experience most all high end pistol are worth their salt. I own Glock and Sig, but I'm going to add a Kimber next time around, just because they look so dang good.

Shane,

Initially, I thought the trigger pull was a bit heavy for a range gun, but after shooting it yesterday, I think I'll leave it be for a bit.

Thanks for the comments folks.

I think you will find that the more you shoot it, the better the trigger feels. My Pro Carry has somewhere in the neighborhood of 80,000 rounds being shot. The trigger is smooth and the break is crisp. I think you will find your gun will do the same as you wear it in. My recommendation would be just to keep shooting it, clean it after use, and change the recoil springs at least every 3000 rounds.

OK, I give up. What is:

Good googly moogly
?

Actually, two houses ago, I had a range at my house...it was actually a working horse ranch and I would shoot nearly every day after all the real work was done.

Fast forward to today and I shoot two to three time a week, more if I can find the time. Sure helps being retired and being a NRA Certified Instructor as I can deduct some range and ammo expenses. Also, I am very fortunate to have linked up with a couple of shooting buddies that are LEO's and are very aggressive and enthusiastic shooters. Throw a couple of civilian buddies into the mix and we have formed a little "club" for power buying ammo in bulk purchases. However, with the price of ammo rocketing higher, looks like we may purchase some reloading equipment and do our own reloads. We certainly generate enough brass.

One can never have enough guns nor enough ammo. Likewise, we do not believe there is such a thing as too much shooting.

But, more on the original topic...I enjoyed my Pro Carry so much that I actually bought the same gun in .40 S&W. I also have a 5" and 3" 1911 from Kimber. I have found each to be an extremely fine gun with no major problems. Only one of the 4 have gone back to the factory for an issue, which was corrected quickly and have not had a problem since.

That is a very nice gun. I think it looks much better with the new grips, good call. It shoots good right? Eh then forget all the naysayers about brand this or brand that. I myself would love to get one, but alas.. they are out of my price range for one gun.
