Anyone ever checker or square 1911 trigger guard?

I know purists will :barf:, but, I like putting support finger on front of trigger guard, and love 1911s. So, id want it checkered, at least. Cant find any pics of it done though and want to see if anyone here has done it and if results were good on the work?

Yes back when I was hand cutting checkering I did some trigger guard fronts.
I recommend checkering no larger then 30 LPI for the front of the trigger guards.

You can cut the front of a trigger guard higher on a 1911 pistol then checker it.
This will give the same effect as using a square trigger guard.
I have a picture some where of a Colt Officer model I did this to, I'll e-mail it to you if I can find it.

Years ago Safari Arms made a small 1911 (Enforcer) and a full-size (Matchmaster) that had squared and hooked trigger guards. You might try one of the auction sites to find one with a photo and see if those work.

Saw this as an option on springfield's custom shop page:

Square style trigger guard (Specify standard or moved forward 3/8”)

What do they mean moved froward, I didnt think you could move one up?

But here's a few customs..

Seems to be a pretty common practice. From what I'm seeing is you can either heat it and bend it or cut and weld.

would either practice leave machining marks, especially cutting and welding? Id want to keep it looking clean, a few serrations or some checkering on the front, those two 1911s there look real nice actually. Of course, im not a purist in any form

, except of course it needs to be metal, polymer is.....well.....plastic.

the ones in the pics have been heated and bent. I imagine that welding would have a likelihood of leaving a mark if you kept it raw stainless. You could of course get it welded and all smoothed out and then have it coated by robar or something.

i noticed short triggers in both, does it change space of trigger guard? I like a long trigger.

I believe its Olympic that owns Safari Arms and you can still buy those ugly frames today, Or the entire pistol. .

I thought the finger on trigger guard went out of style in the 80's as it was found not to work all that well

Owned a nice 1911 with squared and checkered triggerguard. Don't know who did it, but it was well done, and hardchromed. Damn thing kept eating up my leather holster!
