Treso Stainless Vs. Hardened

Looking to get some replacement nips for an Uberti 1860 Army. Thinking of getting some Treso (Ampco) from Tracks. Does anyone favor one type over the other? The price is the same, so that's not even an issue. Maybe something else? Thanks.

nipples

I believe I have the hardened ones and they are the best they made my 51 and 61 navies a joy to shoot no more cap problems. One tip where ever you buy them send them one of your old nipples to make sure you get the right threads. It will save you a back and forth in the mail. Gus

IINM, there are four types of nipples, stock, hardened, stainless steel and Ampco. Stock ones are what comes on your pistols and can be made from a variety of steel hardnesses, hardened ones are what Uncle Mikes used to make, stainless steel ones are manufactures by a couple entities, and Treso niples are made from Ampco bronze.

Those of you with more knowledge than me, please feel free to correct me.

In my experience, Treso nipples work the best, Uncle Mikes are second -if you can find them, with SS ones in third, and stock ones the least desireable.

The Tresos are a little longer, the SS are shorter, The Uncle Mikes/Butler creek were just right and all have smaller flash holes. I like the SS & UM/BC nips the best but had to shim them up in a gun or two. The Tresos were longer and the hammer struck them if a cap fell off. That has been my experience. All of them like Remington#10 caps. I don't know anything about the hardened nipples. The SS & UM/BC nips were of different hardnesses but I can't remember which was harder than the other.
