I'm wondering why, if you wanted a black glock, did you buy an olive drab glock?
It might be better to dye the frame, rather than sprying it... |

Sure you can paint it ... you need epoxy based paint that cures without baking like aluma-hyde from brownells or something like that. It cures avter period of several days but then become quite durable and solvent resistant. I used it in my rifle stock. I suspect it will eventually wear off but then it is no big deal to hit it wit another coat ...
Now if you really want black frame why not look around for a black glock? they are usually cheaper than OD and even with the cheap OD you are talking about I bet you can find even cheaper original, just look around. And as good as aluma-hyde is the zero maintenance black frame is even better ![]() |

My very very own personal opinion is that PAINT makes guns UGLY! Yes, even a Glock can be uglified with paint. I don't mind chrome, nickle, blue, phosphate, sometimes even solid plastic, but can't stand any of those gun-coat, ceramic-coat (Cerakote), Diamondcoat, Duracoat, etc on guns. In fact, I'd rather folks just use house-paint on their guns so that it can be more easily stripped off at a later date.
Rant over. |

Im not sure if you ever plan to sell it or not, but if you paint it, and later decided to try and sell it, you will take a beating. Who knows, OD green might become collectable at some point because its no longer available?
But if you still want to do it, I believe duracoat works well. |

Glock od
I think a Glock od is a very dependable and reliable gun but just for my taste I didn't like the color. If you have one I would never say any thing negative about it. I just wondered if maybe it could be changed! Thanks for all the info. Barry

While I was in the army I painted my synthetic stock M14 with rustoleum. Never chipped or cracked but it did get alot of scratches.

You could just use RIT dye and dye it black. When I bought my G19 I couldn't find a black one in stock locally so I bought an OD one thinking I'd warm up to it but I never did. After doing a little research I found I could dye it myself so I did. It's been 2yrs ago and you still can't tell it from a factory black frame.
![]() I posted a little thread about it on here when I did it. Here's the thread: http://thefiringline.com/forums/show...ck#post3195181 Edit: Looks like someone already posted the link. Guess I need to read the full thread more. ![]() |

It would be better to just trade it for black one.

For Pete's sake, don't paint it!
Either keep it as it is, trade it or sell it. |

Glock has also decided to no longer have nightsights as a factory option and will offer the RTF2 frame only as a LEO model. All three of these decisions have been discussed to death on several gun forums for the last five months.

Let me slide my composite toe duty boots on to kick this topic some more...
Howdy gang;
I'm honestly not quite sure why someone would buy a OD model Glock if they want another frame color. ![]() I had heard in a gun magazine article(SWAT I think, ![]() ![]() I do not like the Glock RTF-2 pistols so the frame color is a non-issue. If you do want to put a high quality coating on a polymer Glock frame & time/$$$ is not a big problem, check out the NIC-CeraKote here: www.APWCogan.com . The site includes a link to a cool color selector chart for a Glock pistol. I like the dark browns, SOCOM blue and green shades but the artic white could conceal great with dress suits/business wear. |

If its a good deal you can buy it and use it until you find someone that will trade with you.
Keep in mind you are not refinishing a rifle stock or rebluing a steel gun with a do it yourself product. You are in effect completely destroying the resale value of the gun:barf:. If you paint it and hate it, or if it isn't as durable as you thought, you will be stuck with it forever unless you are willing to take a huge loss, because lets face it-Who the hell wants to buy a gun some bozo hit with a can of spray paint??? (No offense meant) It would be cheaper and less hassle to just buy a black one if that's what you want. |
