Just curious- Lake City brass

What do the numbers on the head of Lake City brass mean?

Year of manufacture. eg: 97 would be 1997, 02 would be 2002. 46 would be 1946

All US military brass is stamped that way. So is a lot (but not all) of foreign brass.

US brass uses a two letter code indicating the arsenal and a two digit code for the year of manufacture. LC, TW, RA, SL and several others can be found. I've got a .45 auto round marked RA 18!

Note also that Winchester makes some ammo for the military, and it will be marked WCC and the year.

Plus the cross with circle is the NATO standard stamp. No cross and circle just means the round was not manufactured to NATO specs. Most commercial ammo is not NATO spec.

Then about the time someone thinks they have it figured out the some date stamp are single not double as in 44 becomes 4, 55 becomes 5 etc..
