Hi... I'm MAG, & I never thought it would happen to me... but, I shot my chrony...

I have a very old Chrongraph that has the tiny hole you shoot through, & I was attempting to get the FPS on some 38 S&W loads out of a top break snubbie ( only I forgot that I'm still filing on the front sight )... I've shot my paper screens many times, but this gun is still shooting low enough, that I clipped the wire going to the rear sensor ( I think I can repair it ??? )... put a couple dents in the edge of the cover... cable looks shielded, so I don't know if I can just repair the connections, or if I'll have to replace the cable ???

live & learn... I guess... just make sure the gun is sighted in correctly before putting anything over the crony...

BTW... I got one reading... don't know if I can trust it, since it went through the cardboard on both screens, but just less than 600 fps seems about right, this was with a 100 grain cast bullet

I'm so sorry, I just couldn't resist!

Did the game warden come around and ask to see your chrony tag?!?

A retired old cop once told me that if that happens, you should drag the chrony back inside the house so it looks like a "good shoot."

There's only two kinds of chrony users........
Oh well, you know the rest.
I've hit mine a couple of times, just wounded it though.
It still works.
A friend hit his with a .308.
It didn't make it.

I hit the metal rods on mine one time - taught me to take my time and do it right - the rods were okay - but I decided to replace them with wood dowels anyway.

What caliber were you shooting? Maybe a collection of these stories would contribute information to the caliber wars. Obviously a .308 was lethal so you must have been using a 9mm handgun, right?

I think we all do it eventually. If you count the screens and poles mine has been hit at least 5 times. Amazingly, it even has a "half-moon" bullet strike right through the back sensor and metal body but it still works just fine. It's also been hit by untold numbers of 12ga sabots, with no ill effects. They're tougher than they look!

Mine wasn't very tough. It fell from a single 22 LR from my FA Mini.

I talked to a guy that has shot so many of his Chrony's that he can't bring himself to buying another one! I am looking into buying my first one and it had better be bullet proof! LOL

If he's doing that with a rifle then he'd better work on his shooting skills. Other than the sabots, which I don't count, everything that has hit mine has been handgun.

If you hit your chrony with a rifle, unless it's at 300 yards, you're doing something really wrong.
