.357 is a great cartridge. I think I have more fun with the .357 than any other handgun round made yesterday or yesteryear. Being able to use .38 adds gravy to the meal.
Nice handgun!

IMO, a 158 gr. JHP .357 mag. is the optimum SD round. I just wish they made a .357 mag. semi, and don't tell me to get a .357 SIG it ain't nowhere NEAR the same thing.

"They" have, and more than just the gas-operated Desert Eagle mentioned by Stargazer.

I have the standard model B (OK, I am braggging a little) Coonan Stainless .357 Magnum semiautomatic. It is almost identical to a regular Colt 1911 pattern gun (but using a linkless system), also holding 7 rounds. The magazine spring strength, though, is something that has to be felt to be believed. They are robust!

I understand there is some interest in re-opening the production line.

You have to have long fingers to wrap around the grips, and .357 loads downloaded to 38 special power levels will not operate the action without a lighter recoil spring, but it is a fine firearm, indeed.

I wonder if somebody polished it, or did you buy it new like that?

The one (608 8 shot .357 Taurus) I bought was dull gray, but it was a very good gun, good enough to sell to my Brother with faith, after shooting about 3000+rounds out of it without one problem, but I did update to a S&W 8 shot .357 using the Taurus money and then some.

One year later he has yet to shoot it, but I'm sure it will fire when, or if he needs it to.

I hated the taurus grip and went to a rubber Hogues.

By the way Wolff makes lighter springs to lighten up the trigger pull.

I have the 617 Taurus and its a honey. "K" frame, snubbie, ported, 7 shot, lightweight titanium, Tracker grips - what more could you want?

Thanks for the info on .357 semis - the DE is interesting, but I always considered them sort of a joke. Now, something like an XDSC in .357 mag...

Love the .357. I have DA revolvers from Colt, S&W, and Ruger plus thumbusters from Ruger in .357 and love them all.
