I saw a video of someone shooting like this... the gun came back and hit them quite hard in the face.... I'm betting they didn't do it twice.

Friend's brother did that with a Persuader and folding stock once. Chipped his tooth in half.

I had the bright idea of firing a 3" mag 2 oz. turkey load in a model 94 Stevens single barrel.

No I wasn't drinking a beer, not while handling firearms, but when I lit that bad boy off, the recoil was so vicious that my thumb knuckle on my hand hit me hard enough in the cheek to make it look like i was in a bar fight.

Wasn't the brightest thing I've ever done....

You think that's bad, I once had a friend who had just bought a pistol grip Mossberg 500 (i think). We were young, and dumb, and he was dumber than I was. He loaded it with some slugs, walked up to a steel dumpster, and touched one off, and the slug happen to hit just right, and bounced back into his nads! He had some real problems with that injury, and his girlfriend wasn't too happy either. He was lucky that he still had the "family jewels"....

The weight of a shotgun takes most of the recoil out of typical rounds, some loads (notably heavyweight turkey rounds) do have a significant recoil, but your average round is nothing that you couldn't fire one handed and easily manage.

Granted the guy in the photo looks like a dumbass, but in reality if you were to hold a pump action shotgun "pistol style" and fire off some birdshot, a trap load, even most waterfowl loads, it wouldn't strain your grip at all.
