Harrington and Richardson Sportsman Date of Manufacture

A friend of mine has a H & R Sportsman .22 pistol. He seems to think it is as new in the box and unfired. He is trying to find out about how much it might be worth and the age. The serial number is 85xxx with no prefix. I think it was made around 1936 or so. Can anyone help? Thanks

I had one(my ex still has it)that was made I think in 35. It has a tear drop shaped barrel when viewed from the muzzle and oversize checkered grips.
The side of the barrel just says Sportsman.

Serial number 73,xxx was made ca. 1938, and since H&R started prefixing the serial numbers in 1940, I would say your Sportsman dates from ca.1939, IMHO.
