Chinese m44 at pawn shop, should I buy it?
Hey guys I was just at the pawn shop and they had a 1955 chinese m44 in decent shape, better than most t53s but didnt really look good enough to be refinished. Bolt, mag floorplate, reciever, and buttplate (I think, it had alot of rust) all matched. I forgot to look for an import match and bore looked dark with ok lands, it had the bayonet and was missing the cleaning rod. They wanted 180$. should I buy it? what should I offer? any advice appreciated

If you are a serious collector, yes. Chinese MN's are relatively rare.
If you want a shooter, pass. Jimro |

That sounds a bit high to me.Around where I live you could get one in that condition for around $100-120.If you really want it Id try to talk them down.I had a $35.00 u-fix-em T53 that looked like it was dragged behind a truck but once I got all the rust out of the bore it was a great shooter.Quality wise the T53s are as good as any other mosin but most that were imported are in bad condition.

i think that the m-44's are getting more and more hard to find. so if you are willing to pay in my opinion a little too much then get it. i have a 1953 Hungarian that is in excellent shape and i dont think i would sell it for what they are asking for the chinese one you are looking at.

Going price for M44s seems to be $160 - 180 now, so you're not heavily overpaying for a potentially collectible gun. I'd risk the $20 and grab it.
