clean load.

I notice several posters wondering about clean powders.
This subject has never really interested me,however I reacently fired 50 rounds of AA#5 with a wsp and a berrys plated hollow piont.
Can't even tell the gun has been fired. Just thoughe I would pass on the experience.

What was the bullet weight and powder charge ?

I hope to get a clean burning load when I try out VV N105. For $30 a pound it better come with a little fairy that cleans my bore and brass!

I've loaded for Rem. 22-250 & 243 Win. using VV N-550, N-560, N140, N150 and have experienced cleaner burn compared to BlC-2, H380, H414... The price per pound, though, is killing me lately.

40 S&W, 6.5g AA#5,180g berry,s plated hollow point. the gun is a sigma VE.

At 33,500 psi I bet it is clean.
I use AA#5 as a replacement powder for Unique, AA#5 meters well in my powder throw. I tried it for .38spl with 158gr LRNFP at a charge of 5.5gr I had partially burned powder all over my S&W m-10

I upped the charge to 6.0gr and with a heavy crimp AA#5 shot clean and was very accurate. I'm glad when this sort of thing works out. I tried AA#5 initially for .45 acp where it works well for me in warmer loads, and also found it to be a favorite in 9x18 Makarov.
Bluesfan, I think you made a good choice. If it ain't broke don't fix it, or fix it till it is

Using AA#7 I have had similar results in .40s&w. I had one test batch with a few granules of unburnt powder left after each of the 10 shots. Never had any problems with any of my later #7 loads.... nice and clean, accurate, and metered well in my thrower.

Thanks for the feedback jibjab. Looks like this load is a keeper. The accuracy was quite good also. You wouldn't know it was shot with a sigma.
By the way how did you arrive at the pressure figure?
