Need help with a STI Trojan 5", please.

Hi.
I've been all over this forum looking for a 1911 style that shoots 9mm.
I have decided upon the STI Trojan.
If anyone has it, some suggestions for alterations would be helpful.

I'm going to have a trigger job done, but do I also need the Recoil Master? If so, does that cause any difficulty when breaking it down for cleaning?
As far as the sights, I want adjustable night sights. STI offers them, but are they any good?

I doesn't have a mag well and some of the 1911's I've seen have large mag wells. I do not like the look. Are there smaller ones that I can have put on.

Anything else that I should be looking at?

Thanks

Vinnie

Hi Vinnie

before doing a triger job on your STI, try it stock out of the box. Believe me the Trojan is a perfect pistol just as it come. The only thing I've changed on my STI was the mainspring housing (the stock STI is made of plastic I've put a ed brown steel).

Hello, I carry a Series '80 Colt 40+ hours a week and have owned quite a few 1911 type pistols since my first one in 1965. I'm a Colt Armorer and have owned and used stock and customized guns from Colt, Kimber, Springfield, Hienie, Baer, Clark, Wilson and others. I have handled, but not fired, the STI Trojan. The Trojan appears to me to be a very solid,well-fitted, and practical gun. I would suggest owning, handling and shooting the Trojan for a while before planning on modifications. The 1911 type is a well proven design and I doubt you'll find a need or advantage in any "trick" recoil systems. You may also find that you don't need any trigger work at all. I have just seen so many 1911 type guns made functionally unreliable, unsafe or actually ruined by owners or unqualifind "Gunsmiths" modifying them, that I'm very careful/conservative about modifications. ymmv

Thanks for the tips

I was unaware that the mainspring housing was plastic.
But as far as modifications, you may be correct about trying it first...bu the the shipping and FFL people become a hassle.
It is easier for me to pay the money to have the trigger polished and mods done at the "factory" then ship it and back to an FFL to pick it up.
I guess I am trying to make it easier on myself.
I'll think about what you've said.
