Don't you just hate bad luck with the range?

I was talking to a lady friend of mine the other day, and somehow we got on the topic of shooting. I thought to myself "hmm, what a great oppertunity..." so invited her to join me, making plans to go last night.

After running around and picking up some more ammo over the weekend, I dug through my collection of handguns to take to the indoor range, trying to recall when the last time I had been there was. I suddenly realized that pretty much all of my guns are not well suited for someone who hasn't shot before, nor one with small hands. Most of my collection are .45's, with a snubnose-357 that no one seems to enjoy shooting even with .38's. My new Sp101 in .327 seemed a good ticket, but I can't find anything but defensive magnum loads for it. I settled on my .327 with some .32S&W, my colt 1903 pocket .32acp, Glock 36 .45acp and ParaOrd 1911. So I pack everything up, load up tons of ammo, and we head off.

We get to the range just past 8:00, just intime to get a good hour or hour and a half in. Strolling inside, I am met by the woman who runs the range, who apologizes profusely that she has no lanes. It seems they rented a bay to a fraternaty, and had to shut the other down for unexpected maintanence. Darn the luck!

It wasn't all bad, though. Had a nice friendly chat with the owner, who turns out was just in the tail-end of a robbery a few weeks back. Seems she had the misfortune of pulling into a bank as the robbers were on the way out, barring their escape. They fired a few shots, hitting the engine block of her car as they tried to force past her car and make their getaway.

On the plus side, my lady friend signed up for the basic-pistol course, and we may be doing the advanced defensive pistol course in the near future (though it'd be a repeat for me)

And I've rescheduled our shooting "date" for this weekend. Looks like 1 less person on the fence for the RKBA.

I know there must be more to this story....

I keep reading it looking for the bad luck....

Seems like every day of my life to me. In fact, that's about as good as my days get!

Hmm, there was supposed to be a winky-face next to that title....

But, yeah, turned into a pretty nice day, despite the fact we couldn't actually shoot.

Ah!

I thought maybe you were just one of those obnoxiously lucky people that thinks that their shoe coming untied makes for a bad day!

The owner woman was on the news for that.

I'd say start with the Pocket Hammerless then go to the 1911 for a rookie shooter. The 1903 is one of the most pleasant shooters out there (LOVE MINE ) and the ergonomics/feel are very close to the 1911.

A&S Shooting Range in Youngwood, PA. I hadn't heard anything about it until she talked of it, but I don't watch much TV to keep up with the news.

Yeah, I was thinking about starting her off on the SP101 loaded with some regular .32 rounds, then moving to the 1903. I figured something with better sights than the little notch on the 1903 would be a good idea.

Thanks!

Ah, such bad luck!

Got to the range and it was not available.

The night is still young, so what do we do?
