Sight Alignment Illustrations

I am preparing a lesson plan and need some illustrations of sight alignment particularly illustrations showing too high, off left, etc. Any suggestions?

I thank you for your charts and in particular, the last one, for open sights. I teach Hunter Safety and the guys on rifle and M/L will find this very helpful on instructing the young folks.

I've seen these illustrations before, but I've never heard anyone give an explanation of the differences/benefits/uses of each.

Wouldn't the bullet impact a different spot on the target with each sight picture? When should I use a 6-o'clock vs. a cover up sight alignment? Etc...

I'm just currious. I've always shot with the "dead-on or cover up" as demonstrated in the above post. In fact, for most of my shooting years, this is the only method of using the sights I've ever heard of. The other two types of sighting seem really akward to me - what is the purpose of the other two?

Cover up is the picture that you would use when your rifle has a front post sight with a round bead on top; the round bead is the bullet hole. Center mass & 6 o'clock are used in defensive shooting, when you don't want to "block out" your target, but rather, keep it in full view.

No, as each firearm is setup different. The way I set up, I try to keep point of impact the same. It all depends on what I'm shooting. For instance, on a rifle, I use 6:00 Hold. On one of my handguns I use the 6:00 then on another I use the Cover Up Hold. In class, we pretty much stay with the 6:00 hold but good to point out the options. Looking forward to reading follow-up replies to this OP. ...

Those are all excellent illustrations. And I can say from having tried to get a student to visualize that, well, one picture is worth an hour of talking about it!
