I would make sure he wants a barrel that long and there is no way I would pay that much.

It sounds way too high to me. I'm not familiar with a 9.5" barrel option though. Not that I know everything of course. The most common barrel lengths are 7.5" and 5.5" with a 4 5/8" or 6.5" in certain calibers. Once in awhile I see a 10" barrel. So something is weird to me. And the price is at least $300 too high, maybe more like $450 too high depending on the details.

Welcome to TFL chelbyfish.
Lucky husband you have there. These guys are right, something doesn't add up. To get a more detailed answer you may want to give the folks over at the Ruger forums a shout. http://www.rugerforum.com/ Good luck. |

I stand corrected. I looked and sure enough they DID offer a Ruger Single Six with a 9.5" barrel. I said I didn't know everything.
Be that as it may though, the absolute top price I would ever pay for such a revolver is about $600. Well, no actually I wouldn't pay that much even, but that's the most I would expect a seller to advertise one of these in excellent condition. A more realistic price would be in the $450-550 range depending on condition. |

Ruger has a suggested retail price of $519.00 for the 9 1/2" model so I'd say $1,000 is way out of line.

Way too much. I think that guy(the seller) is trying to screw you with that price. Don't pay it.

I picked up a mint, used 9.5" Single Six with extra .22 Mag. cylinder, box & paper work for $325 about a year ago at Gander Mt. of all places.
Great gun but the one you are looking at is priced almost 3X over value. Order a new one for less than half of what this gyt is asking. Good Luck - J.Solo |

Great gun. I've owned the 9 1/2" model for 20 years and love it. I'm sure you can buy a brand new one for under $500.00 easy. Walk away from this guy fast.

The price is insane, unless there's a rare variation I'm unaware of that the collectors clammer for. |

It's barely possible that some REALLY old variant is worth that. Wouldn't be just "Old Model" (pre-1973), it'd have to be something like a flatgate specimen (1950s) or something.
More likely the guy is just trying to screw you. Either way, run don't walk away...

The only way it is worth that much is if it is a very early serial number, or has kind of unique variation that makes it collectible. The Ruger Forums site is a great resource for collector specific info, but they'll need the serial number to answer any questions for you. If it is just a run of the mill single six of recent vintage, that is way overpriced.
