Sig p226 jammed shut

I allowed the slide to cycle on an empty cartridge for dryfiring practice (don't worry, I won't do it again) and my gun is now hopelessly jammed in a near-closed position–no shuttin' it, no openin' it. I may need to bring it to a 'smith, but if anybody has a suggestion...

shim the gap between the barrel and the slide to keep it from closing as the brass shrinks. once it is shimmed up nice and tight put it in the freezer. when you come back to it tomorrow try to pull the slide back as soon as possible, before it from warming up. if this works take down and oil to protect agenst condensation.

You have tried field stripping it right?

And you are absolutely sure it was empty brass that you chambered?

If you are certain it's an empty shell casing, use a wooden dowel and a hammer it down the muzzle. Get a buddy to pull back on the slide at the same time. Increase force until the shell is out of the chamber.

Let us know how it goes.

Shove the front of the slide against something non marring, like the edge of a board, while pulling back on the slide. You need to apply the force against a part of the slide that will allow the slide to move rearward. It should force the slide back, hopefully enough to pop the case loose.

I haven't had the problem with my 226, but I think I have seen the same sort of jam - with live ammo - in a 1911 and a USP. Basically did the above, jammed the edge of the weapon down on a wooden bench facing downrange and just cranked into it until the slide opened up.
