Muzzle energy

Is there a formula for calculating muzzle energy. I presume I would need a chronagraph?

Divide the velocity by 1000 and square it, multiply that number by the bullet weight in grains, multiply that number by 2.219. This is the energy in foot pounds.

KE = V Sq * w /450240

W = bullet weight in grains

V= velocity

KE would be your muzzle energy,

This is the fomular showned in the Lvman reloading manuel and the fomular the army uses.

Speer manual #11 has a table for calculating muzzle energy. I bet you could google the same info.
