Peep sight

Been having trouble with my vision as I get older, as does eveyone. Would like to know how you feel about putting a peep sight on my Super Blackhawk? Been looking at one that will fit. It's called One Ragged Hole. Have you seen, or used this sight? Not a bad price. About 25.00.

Peep sights on a handgun?

Peep sights tend to work best when they are fairly close to the eye. At arms length on a handgun, I wouold think it would have to be a pretty big peep in order for you to see throught it.

As I pass 50, I find that I too am having trouble with the handgun sights. The front sight isn't sharp anymore, and hard to find against the target. I got a pair of glasses that might help, I'll know for sure this weekend.

I've never heard of that sight, sorry. One other thing you might consider is a red dot sight. I have one I use on a Contender, and it works well for me, but it does screw up the lines of a classic revolver, and you will need a special holster too.

Good luck.

peep

therejust not meant for handguns. The peep is designed to be considerabley close to your eye so when you look through it it makes a ghost blackish ring...as you proboably know. I put a peep on a pellet pistol once and when I looked through it my had to be 5" from the handgun for a sight picture! Just doesnt work.
Perhaps you can try some different types of sights? They have illuminated reticles on some open iron sights, hooded front sights work well for me. Or instead of brick inside U(the normal type of sights, yes I made the name up) You could try some other newish brands out there, they have circles inside of V rear sights. I personally find that when that block hits the chunk that is the rear sight....I DONT KNOW WHERE IT WENT! So having a crontrast like a circle snuggling up with a V helps, I know where it is...and when ive gone too far down into the rear sight.
hope this helps

I'm having the same problem with my vision. I'm 55 and noticed that I just can't clearly see the front sight. Blury at best. I just had a complete eye exam and got a new prescription for computer range. It seems to work for my front sight as well. I haven't been to the range yet so I can't confirm that yet.

I also bought a device that may mimic a peep sight;

I'm going to try that out as well..

Peep sight on handguns

Peep sight?
I don't know who makes it but a Glock I shot had "Ghost Ring Sights" on it.

recently

Installed a One Ragged Hole 'peep' ("ghost ring") on one GP100 w/corresponding Marble fiber-optic front blade; have NOT yet fired gun.

I have had a ghost-ring rear blade / fiber-optic front on one 1911 now for over 10(?) years; very fast, accurate (enough).

I also received a Caspian ghost-ring adjustable sight for another 1911 already wearing a Dawson fiber-optic front blade; tested first with 'standard' notch-type rear blade, but after installing the Caspian ghost-ring sight I was significantly faster and more accurate when shooting that gun.

My eyes are both progressively tri-focaled and 53 yrs old......

intent: "My eyes are blind but I can see..."

My intent with installing the ORH / fiber-optic front on one GP100 is to find out for myself if adding them enhances my speed and accuracy as much as the similar combination does on my 1911s.

If so I plan on installing the same combo on my other GP100 and two Redhawks.

All guns considered to be for personal defense, both human and biting animals, and tested in the rigors of USPSA competition.

I think this was a special order from S&W a long long time ago. They do look nice.

Peep sight

A peep sight does work best if it is close to your eye but it is still an improvement to an open sight on a handgun IMO. I have a peep on a 10" Contender barrel and it is quite usable and I get better groups than I did before. Try it, you might like it.

Part of what's working against you is the ramp on the SBH. A post front sight will give you a crisper front sight picture. A little more light on each side of the sight, either from a narrowed front sight or a wider notch would help too. Also, give old-school sight-black a try. It's sold in little spray cans, and it really will sharpen your front sight.

one ragged hole sights

Hey Horseshoer,

My eyesight is changing rapidly, for the worse. I put the One Ragged Hole sights on my 4 5/8" .45 Blackhawk and they have improved my speed and accuracy greatly. I use the smaller of the two. Good luck, Tony.
