9MM SA XD vs ????

Looking for opinions / suggestions here...

I have the money to buy a new SA 9MM XD and am Planning to do so this coming week.... However, I wanted to take one last look around for any other options...

So can anyone suggest a handgun in the same price range as an XD ($500-$650) in 9MM that I should consider before getting the XD in about 4 days?

Thanks!!

EDIT ***
Forgot to mention, I am not interested in a Glock. While I respect them for what they are (Extremely reliable and durable) I personally find them very ugly and unattractive....

At least try out a S&W M&P first

Nope, I would say the XD is by far the best in that category if you are not interested in a Glock.

The M&P is also pretty nice but I have heard rumblings of reliability issues and I would wait for them to be a little more established before buying one.

CPO Sigs and the S&W M&P are about the only two I'd really offer up if you're not interested in a Glock. Personally, it'd be between the XD & Sig for me with the XD winning for a CC piece since it is *slightly* easier to conceal & carry all day (primarily the latter due to the small weight difference). That said, the Sig would be a much better shooter (outside of 1911s, I don't think you'll find a better trigger out there).

handle a Beretta Px4. I love love love mine. I even added one of those universal Hogue grips. Awesome. Hand candy. Shoots like a dream. Here's the best part, where you put your sights, the bullet goes.

If this gun is for self defense, yet you're not getting a Glock because you think they're ugly and unattractive? You've got bigger problems than you think. LOL!

People buy guns today as if they're used in beauty contests?! These're tools to save your life one day. If you wanna die because your good looking gun jams, then that's up to you. I'll live with my 'ugly' reliable gun that'll actually save my life.

Northalius, that would be a valid argument if he said that he didn't want to buy a Glock because a Jennings was more attractive. As it is, there are many other options out there just as reliable as the Glock.

Myself and many others do not find the Glock attractive and choose other guns as a result. I've owned Glocks and shoot them great but I have no love for them as anything other than a tool. I much prefer the looks of an XD, Sig, good 1911, M&P, etc. and each is as reliable (with the possible exception of some 1911s but I'm not going to carry a 1911 that I have failures with).

Thanks for the Tips...
Ive been looking at the M&P also, and like it.... I'll have to goto the local shop and test them both out and make a decision at that time.

That's where we disagree, then.

Glocks are the most durable, reliable and simple semi-auto around today. I'll trust my life to a Glock any day of the week. Sig is good, but just not as good as Glock.

Yeah, that's my opinion, and I could be wrong... but I go by what I've read over the years, and all the tests done. I'll stick with "ugly" Glock.

Funny, I don't think my Glocks are ugly....

And yes, I own XD's as well. XD's are IMO far uglier... but that's ok, my XD40 V10 is being "prettied up". Not because it will be more able to save my life, but just to make it different.

I don't care if my guns are ugly or pretty, they just need to work as flawlessly as possible. IMO my P7M8 is about as ugly as they come, but I trust no 9mm more than that one.

M&P... the teething issues are ancient history even if a few XD owners wish they were still around. From what I read law enforcement agencies seem to consider them a good investment. This is in addition to those that have approved them for private purchase their officers. And it's made in the USA and not Croatia.

You have until the 30th to get in on the rebate.

From MSN Money
Quote:
Most recently, Smith & Wesson received an order from the Colorado Springs Police Department to equip the city's officers with 500 M&P40 polymer pistols. Other sizeable agencies that have recently converted to the M&P pistol series include the Atlanta Police Department, Charlotte Police Department, and Syracuse Police Department. A total of 1,900 M&P40 pistols have been shipped to the Atlanta Police Department; 1,650 M&P40 pistols have been shipped to the Charlotte Police Department; and 500 .45 ACP M&P pistols have been shipped to the Syracuse Police Department.

Officials at each of the four agencies indicated that the M&P pistol was selected after an extensive testing and evaluation process. During the testing, which in some cases exceeded eight months in duration, the M&P pistol was noted for its enhanced ergonomics, ambidextrous controls and proven safety features. Officials added that the polymer pistol's interchangeable grip sizes, accuracy, and ability to be disassembled without pressing the trigger are features that were all highly valued by their officers. The M&P pistol will replace early model Smith & Wesson and non-Smith & Wesson firearms currently used by the four agencies.

Great. Glockeroo reincarnate...grape flavored at that...

All Slasher wanted is a recommendation of another gun that IS NOT A GLOCK and we're already into ANOTHER "Glock's rock, Glocks rule" garbage...

So, what you're saying is that you carry a firearm for protection that isn't yours?

My question is what is the purpose of the gun? Home defense? Concealed carry? Plinking? Competition?

If you're just wanting for plinking I'd suggest a Ruger SR9, Walther P99, SW99, Ruger P95....

No slight intended toward any new member but I've never understood the logic of sending $600 to somebody that's been a member for a week and has no history.

I'm glad you said that because you are actually wrong. I've yet to see any pistol undergo being crushed by a bulldozer, frozen in a block of ice & dropped from 5 stories, shot with a rifle, sat on top of a grenade & detonated, or various other torture other than the Sig P220 Combat. The only "failure" was a grip panel that was bent in. After being popped back out with a simple knife balde, the gun was still perfect. It also had a Lasermax sight in it that suffered a busted lense but still worked. If I recall correctly, there were either 3 or 4 of these Sigs tested. Even the XD torture test went above and beyond the Glock torture test. Glocks are great. They are not "the best" and they definitely aren't "perfection."

Bandit, those jeweled barrels are hot! Good looking collection you've got there.

OP, Tuttle brings up a good point. What exactly is this gun going to be used for?

Now you just sound insane.

Sig and many other manufacturers are as god or superior to Glock. MOST are more accurate and none are synonymous with "KABOOM".

To answer the OP's question before I was distracted buy the above insanity, I would recommend you take a look at the M&P.

I love mine. It is VERY accurate and it handles recoil like no other polygun I've ever shot.

I like my XD as well, but I really love my M&P.

Hey, an option is an option. I didn't condone nor recommend buying from this particular member. All I'm saying is this is an OPTION. What the OP wants to do is up to him/her. I personally don't go by member status and number of posts alone. I research the individual. For all we know, this new member is a well established seller on Auction Arms and just joined....or a 16yr old illegally selling a pistol....
