parts for old EXCEL single shot?

Where can parts be bought for a old shotgun with EXCEL on the side. Looks like H&S Folsom or Ives Johson made it in the early 1900's.Need the flat steel return spring for the break open lever.Thanks. My first gun, hate too part with it because of a spring.

They were made by Crescent, Iver Johnston and Stevens. The Crescent and Stevens are probably the same. IJ may use a different spring. You could probably make any of them work with a little fitting.

excel shotgun

Thanks for your reply. I am trying to make a replacement but the spring loses its temper after bending to shape . I'm trying to strengthen the metal by heating it and cooling it rapidly but have not had any success yet. Any ideas? I saw quenching oil available to dip the hot metal in but for the price of the oil I probably should just destroy the gun. This was my first gun and would like to keep it

Tempering spring steel isn't that simple. Bobs Gun Shop bought out all the Stevens factory parts they might can match one up for you.

No need to destroy it even if you don't get it fixed. Send it to me before you do that.

Check Numrichs breakdown for the Iver Johnson champion. I believe the spring from it may be what you need. Jim
